Christmas Collection - New Edition

This 1872 poem by Christina Rossetti (titled 'A Christmas Carol')was set to music in 1906 by Gustav Holst to become the well known Christmas carol we know today. Here is my version.

I've always enjoyed singing this popular calypso carol over the advent/Christmas period so it was an obvious choice to record my own version. It was written in 1988 by the prolific Graham Kendrick. I was lucky enough to meet Graham a few year's ago - a nice, genuine and unassuming man. He was generous with his time and encouraged me to keep on song writing.

This is a song I wrote when I was seventeen. It was written as a children's song and based on a childhood memory of a visit with my parents to a London store (probably Selfridges) to see Father Christmas. I can remember excitedly going up to the top floor, joining a queue, being greeted by an elf and then entering this magical grotto before eventually meeting Father Christmas. He said a few words to me and gave me a present but I can't remember now what it was. But the experience left an impression and resulted in this song a decade later.

We're lighting advent candles at this time of year,
Reminds me that we're waiting for some Christmas cheer,
We celebrate the birth of a baby boy,
Who brought into the world a lot of hope and joy,

We celebrate our Christmas round the Christmas tree,
Everybody's gathered with their family,
It's good to be together on this special day,
Remembering we're celebrating a birthday,

A great Christmas carol written by Michael Perry (1942-1996). Written to the tune of the Calypso Carol, it's a song I enjoy singing at this time of year.

See Him Lying On A Bed Of Straw

Sit down at the end of the day with a mug of glühwein or a mug of hot chocolate and imagine a typical village Christmas scene on the front of a Christmas card. This is a song of that image.

Christmas Lights On Frosty Nights

First of all thanks for dropping in on my page.
I sing, write songs and play rhythm guitar. I'm trying to learn a bit of bass. People tell me I've got a reasonable voice and I have a liking for melody. As I make my way with multi-track home recording, I'm hoping the the end result will be greater than the sum of the parts!
