Lavalamp Cosmic EP
A groove heavy dance-inspired project fueled by stagnancy and disinterest. The story of the project follows an aimless post-grad, Greg Waters, who escapes death through a wormhole and finds themselves in a far more attractive version of their life.

Despite being granted the life they dreamed of, they struggle with their sense of worth and this sonicscape loosely details their path towards achieving balance.

The Project channels my troubles battling existential doubt combined with my background in film to give the project its own world.

The title comes from the obsolete film, Kodachrome, that was known not for having the best quality, but for its “softness” and “elegance”. I wrote, produced, and engineered the project and, “Codachrome” represents part of the beauty behind working with the tools you’re given. The “Coda”, coming from the musical term, meaning the ending of a musical idea or phrase; The perfect word for the ending of an emotional chapter of life as I prepare to graduate college.

I’ve been going back and forth trying to figure out how to deal with the insanity of police brutality, systemic racism, performative activism etc. and it’s led me back to the music. Music is my journal and my heart is tired of the one-sided abuse. At this point I want to see action in the form of legislation, policy, and defunding corrupt systems, cause there’s no reason this fight shouldn’t even have to be fought. Since it is being fought, I’ll be doing everything in my power to obtain justice and I’m settling for nothing less. Retaliation is so much more than just the physical.
