A cyberpunk homage, inspired by some classic cinema, but with my own twists on things. This was made using a variety of synthesizers and is my first real multilayered synth track. This was also written as a possible set piece for a section of a game I'm working on.

In the spirit of trying something a little different, I put this together in just one day, shooting for something inspiration but mysterious. It has a bit of an island feel, and is mostly synthesizers but also integrates a bit real-world instrumentation with the high and low strings and vocals.

The goal of Undertow is to tell a story through use of instrumentation. It also functions as a sort of overture, revealing pieces of six main themes that would be expanded upon in a larger score, but condensed here into a single piece.

In short, it's telling the story of a character's fall into villainy through the themes of childlike innocence, lost love, grief, revenge, a descent into madness, and arising in darkness.

This composition was completed over three successive weekends. It's built on over 50 tracks, uses the entire orchestra, and is the longest and most complex piece I've written to date (featuring multiple tempo, key, and time signature changes). There are some rhythmic themes I've tried to weave throughout, but most of the continuity is through use and reuse of instruments.

Mayday (Short)

Similar to Chroma/Hunter, this is another request for game menu music, something in a style akin to Silent Hill. Unlike those, this piece is more morose and unsettling than action-oriented. The instruments are fighting a bit and attempting to corrupt each other. Enjoy!

This is the first track I've written for the upcoming fighting game, Project MEPP.

Each character/stage in the game will have it's own theme track, written in a modern take on 90s synth, but each featuring a signature real-world instrument that fits the character (in Axel's case, a thrashing electric guitar).
