LANCASTER - A woman upset about losing custody of her two daughters stole a sheriff's SUV and spent two hours speeding through Lancaster, screaming and crying into the police radio that she wanted to see her children. 

Out of jail 15 days and on probation for forgery, methamphetamine possession and obstructing a peace officer, the woman was finally arrested when she stopped the sport utility vehicle outside a house - apparently hoping to see her boyfriend - and deputies surrounded the vehicle and pulled her out at gunpoint. 

``She was traveling at excessive speeds, going through red lights,'' sheriff's Deputy Dave Jennings said. ``It's a miracle she didn't hit anybody.'' 

The woman was expected to be booked on suspicion of auto theft, felony evading and possibly other charges, Jennings said. 

The apparently drug-fueled odyssey began just after 9 a.m. Thursday in Littlerock, where Ramsey had been put unrestrained in the back seat of a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department four-wheel-drive Ford Expedition by a deputy investigating a vehicle theft. 

Ramsey was able to get behind the wheel of the SUV and drive away, Jennings said. Jennings didn't know how she got into the front seat; the back doors are locked on the inside and a metal barrier separates the back seat from the front seat. 

Jennings said he assumes she was able to crawl out a window or get the door open, because there seemed to be too little space for even a thin woman to get around the metal barrier.
