Several days in the making, back in 2009 in the autumn of Odessa's Velykyi Fontnan region, while crashing nights @ Ksenia Hrytseva's place, where King Imagine also resided at the time (house built by my writer friend and sidekick Victor "Mbo" Solodchuk). I produced the beats and the overall framework, Kingmasta added some sounds, and Ksenia contributed the spacey synthesizer atmosphere, which I then also treated heavily some nights ago @ #моядача studios (respect to Mathieu Baudier the host). 

So, six years in the can did nothing to diminish the rubber jumpiness of this tune. And here it goes out to the man himself, the late great Klaus Dinger, the drummer of Neu! and La Düsseldorf, a punk before there ever was any punk around, and a techno raver before techno and rave times (talkin' early 70's.

Neu! is hugely influenial on Ukr.tele.kom, and somehow this track pays respect to the Spirit.

I am happy it finally got done.

Ukr.tele.kom - Karjaselaul Dub (2012)

This is a title piece I composed for the eponimous play directed by Maxim Didenko and Alisa Oleynik (Russian School of Physical Theater), based on their wordless interpretations of poetry by Josef Brodsky. The foundation of the piece is a piano improvisation by the actress Olya Zubova, which I then manipulated endlessly, on and on. Here is the result...

"Nice are the flowers in the spring garden": grammophone rip direct to 32kbps digital dictaphone, Kiev 2006 - this is an Ukr.tele.kom trans.mission. Music by B.Mokrousov, words by S.Alymova, first appearance in 1946, the vocalist on this version is unidentified. Although many versions are known to exist, it is virtually impossible to track this one down on the nets. Best shit in life is ungooglable! ENJOY this, now part of my soundtrack for M.Didenko/A.Oleynik theater piece "Six Years After", Russian School of Physical Theater, premiered 12 18 2011 in Saint Petersburg's ERARTA Museum of Contemporary Arts.

Improvisation to a preconceived idea, played on qurai, a traditional cane flute from Bashkyrtstan, an autonomy within Russian Federation. Recorded in a shower cabin at "MoKS", Mooste, Estonia, spring 2012. Performed by Sergei Kleyn. Some delay added in post-production.

Dedicated to the memory of my grandmother, from my mother's side, Mar'yam Yakovlivna Povolotz'ka. born on this day, 26 04 1924 in Odesa, Ukraine. She was a piano player, whose musical life was interrupted by the war, from which her family fled to Uzbekastan as refugees, living until 1944 in Qoqand. After the war was over, she married her high school sweetheart, my grandfather, Moysey Borysovych Gitelmaher, who came back from the front as captain of artillery and(combat) intelligence.  His military career took the family, now parents to my uncle, Alex Povolotsky, to Kamchatka Peninsula, where they spent 2 years, lived in a zemlyanka dug in the earth, and ate caviar for breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper. Immigrated to the USA and became an American citizen in 1999. Left this Earth in Denver, Colorado, in 2015 and returned to Odessa that same summer in a vase as ashes, which were planted, according to her Last Will and Testament, in the grave of her late husband, who passed earlier, in 1990. They loved each other in a very touching, elderly, tender kind of way and always displayed affectíon to one another, using touching diminutives. 

The guitar player, whom you are hearing on this record is Alexei Volusunov, a one-time Ukr.tele.kom member (at tender age of 15, who was also born on the same date in 1989, some 65 years after my grandma. 

This piece, in another shape-form-mix, hand been part of the Re:imaginings compilation of Ukr.tele.kom remixes, which King Imagine and I worked on back in 2008-09, but this version here is a brand new composition-rework-remix, constructed in Berlin in March 2019.

It goes out to both my grandma Miriam and my boi Alexei.

all overdubs are breathing warm-ups practice recorded before the improvisation was about to commence.
at the time of the recording I do not think that I was conscious of the presence of the other flute and saxophone in the background, but apparently they were aware of mine and were engaging with me, as I hear now.

Graveyard Shi(f)t was my radio program in 2011 on Sunday nights 11pm St. Petersburg time on DFN FM the motto of the show was "The sounds to wake the dead and put to sleep the living", and was dedicated to extremeties in music, thought and word.
