Since Amani Friend (of Desert Dwellers, Liquid Bloom) met Alex DeYoung in 1995, the duo has experienced many forms of electronic music. As the scene has shifted and evolved, the two producer's paths have ebbed and flowed in and out of each other's lives. After a long hiatus, Variant Field have come to Gravitas Recordings for their first EP in over a decade, Immeasurable. Represented via three original tracks, two edits, and remixes by Lil Fish and DISSØLV, Immeasurable evokes a timeless space, a portal beyond the edge of genres and boxes. Immeasurable nods to several nodes along the electronic music spectrum the two have experienced since the mid '90s, while bringing the music into modern bass realms. Through this, Variant Field has successfully masterminded an emotive, cinematic piece of work that is in perpetual flux.
 
In winter, a mysterious "Silhouette" stands tall in front of the dark gateway, welcoming listeners as she ushers them through the arch. Rewinding time, autumn re-emerges and courages "Letting Go" through hypnotic, melodic beats. "Immeasurable" is an explorative odyssey that floats through a tranquil nebula. Contributing their own creations of the title track, Lil Fish incorporates hypnotic chants and ethereal world influence that precedes wobbly bass energy, while DISSØLV adds dominant yet quivery basslines to the ether. Fast forwarding to spring, "Letting Go" further propels the enchanting, tribal excursion. Coming full circle in summer, "Silhouette" is a darker, more modern IDM offering that pulls listeners back through the gateway and shuts the portal.

Syncorswim, the new Audio/Visual masterpiece from Zebbler Encanti Experience via Gravitas Recordings, is a journey of the soul. A glitchy downtempo, ambient departure from the cacophonous dance-party entries in ZEE's pre-pandemic catalog, Encanti's stirring sound design, and Zebbler's nature-inspired visuals are a deeply felt response to a global encounter with death, isolation, and the unfathomable resilience of love. 


Encanti fled the United States the day before Scottish borders closed, to lock down with his life-partner Catherine on the wild west coast of the moody and remote Scottish Highlands. With the material world peeled back to expose the bare bones of existence, Syncorswim is a meditation on the myriad faces of love in a silent world gone mad with fear and loss. Each song is an emotional destination, a freeform concert in a literal wilderness, created and performed for an audience of one.

As the album unfolds, Encanti and Zebbler’s unique, emotive chemistry ebbs and flows with the intimate and nuanced cadences of the human psyche: “In Fixed Point in Motion,” featuring a virtuosic handpan performance from Dan Mulqueen, Zebbler counterpoints Encanti’s rhythmic tethers with the liquid landscapes and sensual morphology of his own extended immersion in American wilderness with his fiancé. Pulsating, broken dance beats unexpectedly ascend from the acoustic piano in “Moonrise.” Cinematic waves recede in “Ripple Continuum” only to plunder psychedelic underworlds of sexuality in Contact Traces. “Unseen” is a quiet and tender celebration, before the pure joy of "Surrendering" takes us to the generous, rolling climax and thrilling drop of this album. “Kintsugi” counterpoints again, as it grapples with  - and ultimately celebrates - the beauty of the cracks and crevices in a relationship. Vast organic soundscapes accompany the deeply hallucinogenic proto-banger “Ubiquitous.” Lastly, “Salud” pays homage to collective endurance before it brings the deep listener home to a warm, hopeful harbor after the storm.

Californian producer Tropo (Tyson Leonard) is known for his lyrical and hypnotic house music. Fusing live violin in a mix of brooding ethnic electronic and organic collaborations with musicians from around the world, Tropo has worked with fellow artists such as Ayla Nereo, The Polish Ambassador, Alan Parsons, and Wildlight. Tropo’s debut album Mira released on Jumpsuit Records, is a meditative journey. Now, Tropo is excited to share Siente Tu Corazon, coming out via Gravitas Recordings on September 7. The songs on this album come from Tropo’s travels around Mexico, Turkey, Russia and Austria and were made with people Tropo met on his travels, igniting stories and weaving a fabric through music and time. TROPO meaning “the moment in time or the point in space where change occurs” perfectly captures the essence of the cultures around the globe in the auditory exploration within Siente Tu Corazon.

“Siente Tu Corazon” introduces the aptly named album with its dark yet otherworldly tones. Vocals from Alfonso Toro and Arturo Lome captivate the listener while feelings of an expansive world to be explored overtake. “Pantano Mistico” featuring Jesse Hendricks guides us down a dreamy, winding path, through organic sounds of guitar and wind instruments before Tropo and Gevorg Dabaghyan perform “The Summoning”. Deep and explorative, “The Summoning” escorts the listener through the cosmos of time and space. Emerging from the heavens, Ayla Nereo joins for “Heart Moon”, a joyful and effervescent discourse on the beauty of the Earth around us. In a cinematic and sonic journey, “Twilight Fox” places us into the wild and free world of the explorative fox, travelling through their untamed and broad world in the wild before wandering down the “Blue Mountain” in a dark yet housey departure. “Days To Come” presents a profound nomadic exploration of downtempo bass. Next, named after the feathered serpent deity of the Mayan people, “Feathered Serpent” is a tribal observation of flowing drum patterns before “Disco Dreams” bestows a celebration under the stars with its high energy temper. Lastly, true to its name, “Tempest” captivates the listener with its intoxicating beat, revolving and evolving as the track reaches its apex.
