Happy Friday w/ Bambi Rambo - French Press edition - 03.12.21

The collaboration between Alex Blackstock and Dan Sherman was born out of salty, sultry Playa dust. Both resident DJs in San Francisco, and best friends to boot, it wasn't until something happened over that silt-covered mixer in the burning desert that their styles coalesced into unforgettable sunrise sessions, and delicate afternoons on the Esplanade. 

Mixed live on 1200s after a few intense late nights of brainstorming and storyboarding, this set is the debut release of Alex and Dan's collaborative identity. Playing as the symbiotic duo Solomon & Sadao, we want to share some of that dusty magic with the Desert Hearts community. If you enjoy what you hear, give us a LIKE to help us win an opportunity to do what we love and play out some positive vibes at this fall's festival.

Alex and Dan are co-founders of Concept (https://www.facebook.com/ConceptSF), an experiment in musical communication, and Sui Generis, an intimate underground event series in San Francisco that brings electronic music artists who've never been to San Francisco, to San Francisco (first Lake People, then Canson, next, on Halloween, DoubtingThomas).

"I played 10 different sets on the playa this year! Here's 3 of them. Treavor Moontribe told me he's curating a Moontribe & Friends take over at the amazing Kalliope Art Car and it turned out to be one of my fav. gigs of this burn. When the opening DJ didn't make it, I ended up playing an extended opening set, then a powerful B2B with Armando Kroma, and of course closing it out by playing my schedule sunrise set.

9 1/2 hours of house and techno, enjoy!"

It's been nearly a year since one of my Slinky series, and the time was just feeling right for the next episode. For those of you not familiar, these mixes are a touch different from my usual fare. The tracks here are intentionally slowed-down, a more minimal flavor with long overlapping transitions that fill the space between stretched-out beats. Juicy, luscious sounds to get lost in.

@AntonTumas is a man that wears many hats. As a DJ, promoter, and label owner, he has left an inevitable mark on the underground scene, spanning over a decade. Cutting his teeth at LA’s clubs, desert parties like Moontribe and Burning Man, where he’s played everything from Robot Heart to DISTRIKT and Mayan Warrior, festivals such as Lightning In A Bottle, Desert Hearts, Further Future and Woogie Weekend. Refusing to be limited by run of the mill music, his ever-evolving taste ranges from the farthest corners of house and techno to abstract electronica and everything in between.

Route into club DJ'ing - Hanging about with old school friend Lee Burridge at Cheesey nightclubs in the south of England (until acid house music came along). Also moved to Hong Kong (also thanks to Lee) for a brief period playing gigs with a variety of UK finest DJ's such as Danny Rampling Upon returning to the UK then played a verity of opening gigs at various clubs in London. and other gigs in the south and south west of England.
 
That's all well and good but what about now?
 
Moved to Newfoundland, Canada (where?? most easterly point of North America) in 2009 which re kindled his love of dance music where he held a weekly residency at underground club Spin an played regularly at most of the other dance music venues in the city preferring to play a more funky tech house sound as opposed to  the harder sound that many other DJ's were playing, this also led to playing with many visiting DJ's from all across North America and Europe.
 
How's the scene there?
 
The scene in NL is small buy perfectly formed (much like me - ahh if only we'll i'm small i'spose), there is a tight knit community of very supportive  DJ's and producers and crowd are very loyal to local DJ's and the scene in general (as you'd expect as Newfoundlander's are the salt of the earth), this is the main reason for my re-invigoration. 

Started to play an additional residency at Annex lounge in St.John's playing laid back grooves and down tempo t diners then raising the tempo to nu-disco, house and melodic house as the night progressed until the tables were pushed away to make room for dancing.
 
Moved back to the uk and started a family but still found some time to play some patties at least and focus on music production a little. 

Recently moved back to Canada  (Nova Scotia this time) and itching to get involved in the scene there)
 
Style of Music
 
Typically  drawson music from a variety of genres, generally favoring a colourful house or melodic  sound with some classics thrown in for good measure. i am  very much a "take you on a journey" type DJ, with sets that have  a certain ebb and flow to them basically if its got a groove i ll play it!!
