The GRDC has for the first time committed to a multi-million-dollar global investment into dedicated research programs to address crop production constraints and the opportunities machine learning can provide, with the aim of driving profitability gains for Australian grain growers. 

Nine “use-cases” will form the core of the investment which will involve national and international research partners.

Exploring the role of wild species for better nutrition

Year 2024 

Students from different countries and cultures raise their voices through the song “Every child has the right to food” to remind the world that access to safe, nutritious, and affordable foods is a right, not a privilege. The song calls on young people everywhere to speak out against hunger and inequality, promote healthy habits, and take action for a more sustainable, fair, and peaceful world where every child can enjoy a better life and future.

In this episode, we explore how Indigenous People's food and knowledge systems play a key role in conserving biodiversity and promoting better nutrition, in alignment with Target 10 of the Global Biodiversity Framework "Enhance Biodiversity and Sustainability in Agriculture, Aquaculture, Fisheries, and Forestry" .

We speak with Shimron from the Ogiek Community of Mt. Elgon and Memusi from the Ilchamus people in Kenya about this intersection of Indigenous Peoples’ food and knowledge systems, biodiversity conservation and better nutrition

Indigenous Youth enhancing nutrition and biodiversity in fisheries and forestry

Community engagement is at the heart of FAO’s emergency and resilience work. In anticipatory action—where the time between early warnings and potential hazards is often extremely limited—listening to and working with communities is essential. Meaningful participation of all stakeholders helps ensure that interventions are timely, tailored to the local contexts, and effective. Nery Ronaldo Carrera Franco from Guatemala reflects on the importance of engaging all stakeholders at different stages of anticipatory action programming to achieve greater impact.
