The first entry in this year’s Virtual Utopia program comes from the Australian-born, Berlin-based duo, Daisy Records (@daisyrecordsmelbourne). Mitch and Obelix have crafted an entrancing 2.5-hour journey that weaves through downtempo, house, ambient techno, and trance -all infused with a shimmering ambiance that radiates warmth and positivity. Each track carries an ethereal beauty, enveloping the listener in a calming softness that invites them to close their eyes and drift peacefully through the inner, and outer reaches of their minds. 

Daisy Records are true masters at capturing a sense of ethereal spaciousness, delivering a sonic palette that soothes the mind and cleanses the spirit. This mix offers listeners the space to let their thoughts flow gently downstream, while their atoms dissipate, floating aimlessly yet never lost, free from the need for a destination.

Every sense is blissfully engaged here—vibrant colors, cooling winds, the fresh scent of life, and the harmonious soundscape of a flourishing Earth. A temporary window into the unspoiled nature it once was.

Through the spectrum of euphonic sound, resonating souls merge and dissipate like distant murmurations. Although for some, however much their distance may change, through the phenomena of love, they will remain forever bound.

'Poolside Pearlers' is the maiden compilation by Naarm/Melbourne-based label @proto-exotica, a collection of six tracks touching on all manner of downtempo groove perfect for growing Summer anticipation.

'You Are Your Experience', contributed by Naarm local Sonder Plain (@greattepidland), is a Balearic-tinged dip into a Friday just a little warmer than the ones before.

Dubbed out vocal samples are met with funky, near slap basslines and crunchy percussion, served warm over a bed of near tropical synths. Sonder Plain has presented the perfect pool party starter, at a time where the Southern Hemisphere may need it most.

Of the release, Proto Exotica shared:

"Each track is an asynchronous contribution from friends across the Asia-Pacific region: Mori Ra, Sonder Plains, Tucan Discos, Bongomann, Max Hammur, and Gold Suite. By taking away the barriers of location and time, self-paced collaboration let each sound breathe in, breathe out and find its natural place."

'Poolside Pearlers' releases digitally on Thursday, September 18 via Proto Exotica's Bandcamp, alongside a limited release of 150 vinyls.

Another snapshot from our night with @escalator-to-nowhere in May 2025. Half-human, half-AI hallucination, @dreamsoftwarecorp floats in like a digital cloud formation. The first half rains down pixelated cascades of ambient techno, while the second introduces heavier textures with wriggling 303s pulling you through like cilia to the other side.

Locally adored & undeniably talented, Miles' releases are consistently luscious & groovy.- reminiscent of the pure bliss freedom of raves during late summer at home. Housey, progressive & full of rare-cuts - this mix is a perfect extension of MIles' style & a great fit for the series. Welcoming Spring in full bloom in Australia :)
