Cal used to be one half of Nottingham deep house / downtempo outfit Neon Heights back in the 2000s, springing from the same fertile Notts scene as Crazy P, Bent, DiY, Inland Knights etc, and recording twelves and albums for many labels including Glasgow Underground, Yellow, Sunday Best, Afro Art, DiY, Imperial Dub and Silver Network.

Family commitments then lead to quite a few years away from music, until 2020 saw The Secret Soul Society surface with a couple of EPs on Paper Wave Recordings (Paper’s Balearic offshoot) and an LP for Slightly Transformed Recordings.

Having relocated to South Wales and started the label Scruffy Soul Recordings with Australia’s The Found Sound Orchestra and Japan’s Jules Brennan, The Secret Soul Society is all about just having fun: digging into old records and reworking them into something new: a musical collage of funk, soul, jazz, disco and all the good stuff squelched up into a psychedelic whole.

DJ-wise, it's anything deep, soulful and left-field, goes: jazz, funk, Afro, beats, dub, soul and reggae mixed up into a wholesome, enticing brew

Being- without the influence of the outside

NOW - In the outside (Everything is as it is).

The meaning of life is love. This is the will of creation and serves the expansion of love. Which we beings may experience with our given senses.

Love is THE universal, ONE force. Accordingly, life is also love. Everything is love and perfect as it is.

Within our BEING we can feel love in its full power - everything is in order there. Depending on how far you go within, you come to the point of absolute nothingness and that is the origin of everything. Out of which love forms and shapes everything in the NOW.

In the NOW, however, it is the external factors that can influence love. For better or for worse. Whereby these are only words. In love there is no bad and no good, no big or small, thick or thin.

Love cannot be described. It arises out of the nothingness of creation. This nothing corresponds to a vacuum from which only love emerges and spreads into the entire universe. Love is everywhere and is what research calls dark matter - it is everywhere and holds everything together.

In fact, it serves to form stars, which have the sole purpose of making love available to all planets in the form of energy (light).

Planets and everything on them are living organisms which, like us, need love in the form of solar energy. Without it, nothing could exist. Therefore, what we call life is pure love. The moons serve as antipoles to their planets. Nothing can be without the other, (Yin & Yang principle).

The earth's magnetic field from the south/north pole serves to keep everything on our planet vibrating. Energy is frequency and permeates everything. Our brain is a bio quantum computer which is constantly in touch with the frequencies. Just as we emit energy with every word and every movement. Everything vibrates, there is no standstill in creation.

Sleep enables us to dwell in the whole depth, in being. There we are with ourselves, without external influences. Here we find rest and can receive messages or be part of creation and create (dreams).

This is my second guest mix for the Green Finger Collective

The first mix I did, a few weeks ago, "Love is The Message (Tears in The Rain Mix) was quite heavy and took probably the most energy, thought, rehearsing, discovery, re-selection, re-sequencing and re-mixing out of the 1000’s of mixes that I’ve ever done. But that mix had a very specific intention which is very personal to me.

So with this mix “Surfin the Groove - (More Reverb on the Dub Mix)” I just wanted to feel free, like I was a surfer riding the sonic waves.

By focusing on certain parts of the each song, my intention is to shine a light on the groove my sole focus is to then simply to surf that groove wave for as long as possible.

This mix represents the true spirit of Jah! The Rastafari Elders – Bongo shep, if you are familiar or curious about the Rastafari culture this is a great album to own.The album is a mix of Nyahbinghi chants/ hymns and Rasta Elders reasoning, making for a very powerful and insightful body of work. It was sampled on Thievery Corporation: 2001, a spliff odyssey. Located in France, High tone have been making dub infused music, filled with vocal samples and foreign instruments for over 20 years. The American poet and lyricist William S. Burroughs was remixed by Dub Spencer and Trance on the album In dub. In a quality dub trademark, they use a vast array of mixing dub techniques and his unique voice to create a masterpiece of chilled dubby vibes! Michael George Campbell (4 June 1954 – 15 March 2008), better known as Mikey Dread, was a Jamaican singer, producer, and broadcaster. He was one of the most influential performers and innovators in reggae music. Saturday night style is on the album African anthem which features Robbie Shakespeare (Sly & Robbie), Augusto Pablo & King Tubby. On the model dub, Prince Fatty delivers a stunning cover of Kraftwerk’s electro pop in dub. See mi ya (I See you in Jamaican patois) – Riddim mix combines multiple Rhythm & Sound tracks such as See mi ya, Dem never know, Free for all, and Let Jah love come. Bandulu and Jam&Spoon were mostly known for their techno tracks but Paul Daley aka of Leftfield fame here delivers a stunning unreleased mix of Heart of Africa. Babe Roots is a new act that has released an album on Linear movement: Sun is shining sang here by Milly James is a cover of Bob Marley.

Appleblim’s Circling is one of the best releases on Skull disco, more known for Dubstep. On Rise again, legendary Dominica born MC Paul St-Hilaire delivers another smooth chant to accompany Deadbeat two step dub production.
