Ripped Fabric and Cello
About a year ago I wrote myself a note in sharpie on an old pillow case. The note said: Dear Future Greer, Write a piece using ripped fabric. Love, Past Greer. 
I found the pillow case last week and decided to write a short sketch.

Ripped Fabric (time capsule)

two channel tape piece with minimal cello accompaniment.
A mixture of no-input mixing, recording the the reels and the hum of the machine (using a condenser mic and a contact mic) and sparse cello influenced from the sound of the active tape machine

The piece is an examination of the tape machine itself, the sound of it, the process of it creating sound, the spinning of the reels and the feedback from contact mics on the surface all encompass the object.
I ask listeners to be patient as they listen to the 25’ piece and take the time to reflect on their self and their own sensations. I ask the listeners to sit with this idea of introspectiveness.

Greer McGettrick, uses their background in visual arts and music to explore and subvert the relationships between composer, performer, and audience, questioning the conventional barriers that separates these. Their work examines noise and noise within the role of music; play; indeterminacy; and how they are connected though sociopolitical and queer lens. They are gender non-conforming and live and work in San Francisco, CA.
