The Answer

Greg Clifford is an 18 year old drummer, and attends The University of Texas in Austin. He has been playing drums since he was two and has been taking lessons since he was four. He has studied for 5 years under the direction of the late Eddy Kozak, a legendary percussionist, and Chan Teague, chief percussionist for the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra. He was the drummer in the Mathew Davidson Band http://www.matthewdavidson.net/Band.html, the River Breezes jazz band http://riverbreezesjazz.com/default.aspx; https://www.facebook.com/pages/River-Breezes/136023206458022, as well as in the experimental psychedelic funk rock band The New World Band http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-New-World-Band/187133287966056?sk=app_178091127385 . He has won several awards at regional competitions in his school bands. He has performed in school talent shows and at the ArtBreak regional art and performance exhibition for several years. He has performed with Eddy Kozak, Buddy Flett, as well as regular shows in the Shreveport-Bossier and surrounding area with River Breezes and Sky Eyes. With the Mathew Davidson Band he performed regularly since June of 2010 at local restaurants (El Chicos, Even Stevens, Smashburger), festivals and charity events. Notable performances include at the Red River Revel (Shreveport’s premier music festival), the Shreveport World of Wheels, the House of Blues in Dallas, the Mississippi Blues Marathon in Jackson MS, the Louisiana State Fair, Mud Bug Madness, the Krewe of Centaur Mardi Gras Parade, Holiday in Dixie, the Natchitoches Jazz Festival, Going Green on the Red, and many others. 

Greg also composes and records songs at home with many musicians. His musical interests range from classic rock and blues, progressive/alternative rock, to early and modern Jazz. In addition to drums, Greg plays keyboard/piano, bass guitar, other percussion instruments (djembe, timbales, vibraharp, timpani, marimba, congas, bongos), and is learning guitar.

Greg moved to San Antonio the past August in 2011 but has recently joined the rock band, Age of Reason, headed by lead singer Gilbert Guzmann. He still performs with the New World Band during visits to Shreveport. Currently Greg is on the drum line at Claudia Taylor Johnson High School in San Antonio and is a member of the JHS jazz band. The JHS marching band was ranked number 8 in the nation last year by the BOA. Greg is currently training in percussion under the direction of Graham Francis, at the University of Texas San Antonio.
