Ibanez Musicians '81 MC924 v '84 MC888. Part played on the MC924, followed by same part on MC888 each time. Neck pickups, followed by bridge pickups, then both pickups. The neck pickup played with a pick, followed by both pickups with a pick. Both strung with Rotosound RS66 Swing Bass steels.

Precision Bass pickup comparison. Seymour Duncan 'vintage' model v two of mine. Duncan first each time. Recorded flat through a Reddi DI and then matched for average level.

Quick and dirty comparison of the stock DeArmond pickups v TV Jones T-Armond pickups. Stock pickups first each time. '05 Duo Jet into Deluxe Reverb, mic'd with a Royer R121. No processing.

I used the spacers that come with the TV Jones pickups, to raise the height of the stock pickups, before recording them. They were set to TV Jones' recommended heights, to keep the comparison as close as possible. I regret not recording it without the spacers first, as that changed the tone as well.

Bridge, then both then neck pickup. Single followed directly by (roughly) the same thing with the humbuckers.

MC30TH Single V Stock

Comparing single coil Super 4 pickups in MC30TH to split humbucking versions in a MC888 Bean bass. Both basses running passive.

Super 4 MC30TH V Bean 'buckers

MC30TH with vintage Super 4 neck pickup and my reverse wind/polarity bridge pickup v 1980 MC924 with original Super 4 pickups. Listening to the difference with the spacing, where the neck pickups are in different positions. MC30TH first and then MC924 repeating same phrase (more or less).

Super 4 V Split Single Super 4

1980 Ibanez Musician pickup v my noiseless single coils. Stock first, followed by mine. Setup is the same, except for the pickups. Recorded flat, preamp off, into a Ampeg SVTDI and then level matched.

The start is clips of the bass with both pickups on, without touching the strings. They are both boosted 10db to emphasise the background noise.
