Emerging Purpose Podcast Episode 6 - Philip Carr Gomm

This episode I had a wonderful conversation with Ann Mathie. Ann has a masters degree in the traditions of yoga and meditation from SOAS.

Ann has been practising yoga and meditation for nearly 20 years and has since completed her Masters in the Traditions of Yoga and Meditation from SOAS University with ongoing Sanskrit training. Her own experiences have pointed her toward a phenomenological investigation of the parallels between spontaneous Kuṇḍalinī awakenings and Buddhist and Yogic paths to enlightenment as well as cutting-edge consciousness theory. To draw sense from the varieties of extraordinary human experiences that can occur spontaneously, Ann studies metaphysical frameworks within the traditions of Yoga, Tantra and Buddhism in a scholarly context. Her previous research focuses on the phenomenology of Buddhist and Yogic experiences through meditative practice.

Her mission is to gain a deeper understanding of the psychological processes that can arise from spontaneous transpersonal experiences or deep meditation practice and how we can draw on thousands of years of collective experiences to safely support others walking this path towards greater wholeness.

Emerging Purpose Podcast - Episode 9 - Jocelyn Rose

Adam J Malone is the Creative Director of The Tarot Experience VR. During his first MA in Myth, Cosmology and The Sacred, Adam’s interest in the power of mythic narrative brought him to focus on the divinatory system of the Tarot. Having written a dissertation in 2020 entitled ‘The Art of Transforming The World: Tarot and the Future of Immersive Experience’ Adam went on to study a second MA at Royal Holloway in Immersive Storytelling, where he graduated in 2021. Adam’s final piece for the course later became The Tarot Experience VR and aimed to prove his hypothesis that Tarot is an important immersive storytelling art form for the future. The experience was nominated as a finalist for ‘Experience of the Year’ at the VR Awards 2023. Adam’s professional and creative work is now focused on bringing meaningful and transformative experiences to the world of digital art, whilst his writing focuses on the power of myth, narrative and metaphor. An experiential practitioner in the field of transformative learning, Marianne holds master’s degrees in transpersonal psychology and mindfulness-based psychotherapy and a doctoral degree in transformative learning and change in human systems. Integral to her work has been her training with Stanislav Grof – she completed the Grof Transpersonal Training in 2001, is a certified Grof® Breathwork facilitator, and has facilitated holotropic breathwork in the US, UK and Europe, Kenya, and India. In addition, she has trained and certified as a facilitator of Bert Hellinger’s systemic constellation work and as a massage therapist. She is a member of the faculty at the Academy for the Love of Learning where, for the past 22 years she has been intimately involved with the development of the core curriculum, helping to establish the Academy’s pedagogy. Marianne is senior faculty for Grof® Legacy Training USA, serves on the Board of Directors for Grof® Legacy Project, is a Mind and Life Fellow, and lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Our discussion centered on personal transformation, healing, and collective evolution through practices like Holotropic breathwork and psychedelics. Marianne Murray shared her journey from working in higher education to becoming a breathwork facilitator, exploring how transformative experiences can help individuals unfreeze emotional blockages and expand consciousness. We discussed the importance of creating safe, intentional spaces for personal growth, and how practices like breathwork and psychedelics can help people connect more deeply with themselves, others, and nature.

The conversation also delved into the current global meta-crisis, addressing how depression and anxiety might be natural responses to societal challenges. They emphasized the need for creativity, compassion, and maintaining hope while acknowledging the difficulties humanity faces. Both agreed on the critical importance of practitioners doing their own inner work and being impeccable in holding space for others during transformative experiences, warning against treating psychedelics or breathwork as a simple "silver bullet" solution.
