LIVE at FY6 Sat 9th July

I recorded this episode live at the end of one of the hottest days of all time here in London, so it only seemed right to start off with some sultry summer bubblers. Instead of the usual jumping around the BPMs i started very slowly and worked my way up steadily, so we went from a smooth and hazy chug to something a bit more lively by the end of the hour. Bit less heavy on the promos this time as I was focussing on summery tracks, plus some stuff I actually paid for recently. It was a really fun mix that ended up flowing pretty well, despite me almost melting whilst standing at the decks. Us Brits aren’t built for this heat! 

For the second hour I was very excited to hand over to one of my favourite DJs, Briak from France. Every mix I’ve heard from Briak has been a masterclass in track selection and mixing, and this one’s no different. There are no fewer than 24 brilliant tracks crammed into this hour long mix, with global and afro inspired rhythms, many shades of disco, some housier stuff, all blended together perfectly into one sublime journey. It’s such a good mix, honestly one of my favourites so far on the show.

I'm delighted to welcome the talented Mexican DJ and producer Kristoff MX to the show this week. I'm a huge fan of his work, and I'm delighted to have his uplifting disco energy on the show.

His set consists entirely of fellow disco artists from Mexico, which is where a lot of exciting music has been emerging over the past few years!

He is characterized by his versatile style of DJing as well as in his musical productions, embracing the groove of Disco music and it's culture, creating a happy and energetic atmosphere in each place that it's presented, interspersing various genres such as Soulful, Afro Disco,Boogie, Nu Disco, Indie Dance, Funk and Jackin House to name a few.

Episode 89 saw me cram in a good variety of oldies alongside a load of new bits too. In hour 2 I present to you a wonderfully funky guest mix from Madrid’s Da Groove Brothers. This one is right up my street - the sort of music I love but don’t know enough about… sleazy, fonky, lower tempo tunes full of vocoders, crisp beats and bendy synths. With 30 years’ experience behind the decks - spinning uplifting House, Disco, Edits and more - London-based Greg Middleton is a versatile DJ, from warming things up with laid-back grooves to closing out a night with peak-time floor-fillers. Greg’s sets are fun and nostalgic, yet sophisticated and unpredictable, with rock solid vocals, funky and soulful grooves, layers of organic percussion, and hints of classic house - a nod to his musical roots.

Greg began collecting records and learning the DJ ropes in the early 90s, introducing himself to the club scene spinning House at various nights across the Midlands before moving onto playing at famous London clubs such as SW1 and The Cross.

Over the following decade, Greg broadened his style, heavily influenced the emerging Edits scene championed by the likes of Greg Wilson, Late Nite Tuff Guy and Dr Packer. He then held a three-year residency at the Big Chill Bar (one of London’s long-established venues), where he further honed his skills, reading the crowd and building the tempo while spinning long, genre-hopping sets.

Starting his own regular club night called Borderline in 2018, Greg brought his funky, party vibe to a packed-out, intimate venue in South-West London. When the pandemic hit, Greg took Borderline to the virtual airwaves, doing live streams every Saturday night during the lockdowns, with lively chatrooms and a growing following. The club nights returned with a bang in March 2022, and are going from strength to strength.

As a member of the “Disco Waltons” family, a group of DJs, producers and enthusiasts with a fast-growing reputation, he is currently co-producing the weekly Disco Waltons Sunday Service show on NDC Radio, with guests such as Michael Gray, Richard Earnshaw, Mark Brickman, Jamiroquai's Derrick McKenzie and Greg Wilson.

Greg is also co-host of Pete Ellison's award-winning radio show the Feel Good Friday Show, currently airing weekly on NDC Radio.
