Peering Into Darkness

Producer Jem Warren focuses on creating hypnotic and dense prog-house textures, going for a smooth and spontaneous flow. His most recent release, Déjà Vu, kicks off with a 16th note hat pattern, with the drive of a four-on-the-floor kick and snare tone. The melodic layering of the song soar gradually, first with a cinematic ambient drone, and later with a very atmospheric melodic line, played with a dark, beautifully modulated synthesizer. The melodies get brighter as the song goes along, almost embracing elements of trance and deep house. There is a massive crescendo leading to a stop-and-go break, which kickstart the dynamics of the song, taking the mix to a whole new level.

I appreciate productions that showcase a strong focus on detail, and this one definitely hits the mark. From the cutting beat, down the the tastefully layered synthesizer arpeggios and ambient drones, anything goes. Jim Warren knows a thing or two about great sound design, and this song is definitely a perfect example of quality!
