I wanted to put together a mix of techno I used to hear at NYC parties like Disco 2000 and clubs like Tunnel circa 1991-1994 because when I first started hearing modern techno a few years back, I was like, “This sounds rather tame.” 

So check out this rather aggressive mix with songs like Cubik by 808 State, the Josh Wink remix of Town Tei’s Technova & the Woodtik remix of Moby’s Go featuring the theme from Twin Peaks, along with some obscure rave remixes like the Johnny Vicious Cosmic Mix 2 remix of Deee-Lite’s Bring Me Your Love, which…TAKES YOU PLACES.

My opening set for SolidariTEA - a fundraiser for BaBEC, the Black and Brown Equity Coalition of Fire Island, recorded live on Saturday, August 4th on the beach in Cherry Grove.

I started off the set with Patti Labelle’s The Spirit - because the lyrics, “So listen to me people. Get control of yourself. Let's get together and work things out” spoke to me because we need to talk more in order to understand one another. The rest of the set is filled with uplifting house and disco classics I selected to celebrate our diverse, queer community.

Greg Scarnici is a Brooklyn-based writer, producer and DJ. A native New Yorker, his musical style has been influenced from decades of absorbing New York nightlife. Nights at Red Zone, Sound Factory, 718 Sessions, Carry Nation and countless other clubs and parties have helped him hone his style of uplifting Chicago, Detroit and New York House mixed with disco and re-edits inspired by the music played by his DJ forefathers at Paradise Garage and Danceteria. Greg has spun on the legendary Fire Island for for over ten years, as well as at his party, Below Tea, on the last Sunday of the month at The Monster in NYC. He has released music under his own name, his drag persona, Levonia, as well as his band, Undercover, whose sophomore album, Night Beats, was called “elegant and stunning.” His latest singles, “The Elevator" and "The Serve" are out now, with more releases on the horizon.
