Happy new year! This was my final gig of the year recorded at a wonderful house party somewhere near Notting Hill/Kensington. Phil and Victoria reached out a few months previous to book me for Phil’s 50th at their house and I must say… WHAT A HOUSE it was. Beautiful place, wonderful friends and family in attendance and a real party atmos. They fed and watered me all night and I met some superb people all evening. The set reflects the party vibes of the night and the dancefloor didn’t let up for a second from the get go. Hope you enjoy this session as much as I did x

Partial PR: The 51st release on microcastle welcomes Brian Cid back to the label for a brand new EP. The US artist last appeared on the Canadian imprint a year ago with his well received 'Belles Du Shaman' EP. Three diverse and uniquely organic productions along with a remix from Eagles & Butterflies saw the release reach #1 in Beatport's Electronica and Progressive House charts, while placing #4 in their overall Top 100. A subsequent release on Manjumasi, along with a stunning six track EP on his own Extinct Records imprint saw Brian's music played and supported by Adriatique, Lee Burridge, John Digweed, Henry Saiz, Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo and Joris Voorn. His Theory Of Light project with Holmar Filipsson from Thugfucker debuted with two remixes for Cityfox while a solo EP is due on the label later this year. Now making his much anticipated return to microcastle Brian presents his three track artist showcase 'Pluto', alongside a remix from Marvin & Guy.

The lone interpretation of 'Pluto' is provided by Marvin & Guy who are making their first appearance on the label. Formed in 2011 as a DJ and production duo, Italians Alessandro Parlatore and Marcello Giordani aka Marvin & Guy have been releasing their unique take on house music through a variety of international labels, most notably on Aeon, Correspondant, Hivern Discs and Life & Death. 2017 began with a stellar four track EP courtesy of Permanent Vacation with a bevy of new material set to follow later this year. Now making their much anticipated microcastle debut Marvin & Guy take 'Pluto' into tripped out territory with great results. Aptly titled 'Hypnodance Mix', it's a journey played out over twelve magical minutes, as the duo work mesmerizing lines, intriguing vocal samples and deep chugging grooves, resulting in a sure-fire dance floor bomb.

Born in Valencia, this thought provoking, emotive artist has steadily developed a distinctive style that fuses organic and analog sounds with masterful creativity, perfectionism and constant innovation, making him one of the most naturally talented producers to emerge from the Spanish scene. Upercent’s uncanny ability to tell captivating stories through his music has seen him evolve and raise the creative bar with outstanding releases on Kompakt, Diynamic, Monaberry and Endless. Now making his microcastle debut with the three track artist showcase ‘Vuit’, Upercent presents some of the most eclectic productions of his career alongside a remix from Chaim. 

The EP begins with its title track and first showcase piece ‘Vuit’. Built on a deep, meditative groove, the piece develops with a unique hypnotic charm. Upercent’s use of distinctive percussive elements, eastern motifs and clever dub styling, creates an instantly memorable introduction to a pure master at work. From its metronomic chiming base, with ‘Tango’ it’s the arrangement of organic designs that makes yet another undeniably original creation. In fact,  it’s a supremely delicious smorgasbord of afro elements that masterfully builds towards the unveiling of a heart-melting piano in the final act, revealing the unrivalled steamy aspects of the classic South American dance to perfection.

Take a treated guitar along with a multitude of distinctive elements, add some jaw-droppingly, seductive tones, and breathe everything deeply into a stripped back arrangement laced with analog stabs, while drawing on the experimental attitude of freeform jazz and you have the third offering ‘Submissive’. But, Upercent’s masterstroke here is to collaborate and introduce the sublime vocals of Dwayzo Lawrence aka KnowKontrol, from Syracuse, NY. This multi-genre artist has a complementary, experimental attitude that channels his inimitable ability to inject an already profound track with authentic soul. A precious talent that has already seen him collaborate with some of the electronic world’s finest innovators and labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Drumcode, Rebellion and Keinemusik.

To complete this already creative package, microcastle has enlisted the remix talents of Berlin-based artist Chaim. The renowned musician, DJ, producer and Tel Aviv native has long been one of electronic music's most fascinating artists. Having previously remixed the likes of Art Department, Pete Tong and Ellen Allien, his organic, forward-thinking music has found a home on BPitch Control, Cocoon, Culprit, Disco Halal, Rumors and Turbo. As an artist bound by no genre, but tuned into expressions of liberation and joy, Chaim creates music that is truly universal and is the perfect choice to re-interpret ‘Submissive’. Chaim nails down a backbone of tough, incessant, hypnotic beats, complemented by a seductive blend of evolving, tribal percussion, while reprocessing KnowKontrol’s vocal into a mesmerizing, magical spell, that forms the perfect finale to this stunning four track audio adventure. In recent years Late Nite Tuff Guy has stood out as one of the best DJ / Producers in the re-edit game. His productions and live sets are loved by DJs, musicheads, ravers and people who just want to have fun.

LNTG headlined the Rabbit Hole's Funkingham Palace on the Thursday night of Glastonbury 2019, setting the tone for a long weekend of musical bliss.

That day he played hours and hours of Prince tracks at The Spike, then made his way up to the Rabbit Hole to close the night after excellent sets from the FP Footmen, Flying Mojito Bros and Algy Strutt.

The next night LNTG played after Fatboy Slim on the Glade Stage in front of thousands, a career highlight for a man on the top of his game.

Greg began DJing in 1975 and is regarded as one of the most important figures on the UK dance scene. He enjoyed hugely popular residencies in the early eighties at Wigan Pier and Manchester’s majorly influential Legend, having originally started out in his hometown, New Brighton. A pioneer of mixing in the UK, he became the first ‘dance music’ specialist hired for a regular weekly session at Manchester’s now legendary Haçienda club in 1983. Greg was instrumental in breaking the new electronic, post-disco records coming out of New York, a sound he has dubbed ‘Electro-Funk’.

In 2003 he set up electrofunkroots, a website documenting this crucial era in the evolution of dance culture. After a two decade hiatus from the booth, he returned to DJing and soon welcomed bookings throughout Europe and, subsequently, worldwide.

Greg was the first DJ to mix live on British TV, putting together the first UK radio mixes of their type for Piccadilly 261 in Manchester and showing a certain Norman Cook (later Fatboy Slim) how to scratch.

Nominated by DJ Magazine for outstanding contribution, and also named amongst their top twenty remixers of all-time, Greg’s remix credits include Grace Jones, The XX, Groove Armada, Bryan Ferry, Confidence Man, Gilberto Gil and Simian Mobile Disco, whilst he’s edited tracks by A Guy Called Gerald, Talking Heads, O.M.D., Electronic, Imagination and Missy Elliot.

In January 2009 Greg’s reputation was further enhanced when his Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1 received almost universal acclaim and was selected as one of 10 classics that spanned the show’s near 17 year history.

Greg’s Blog, ‘Being A DJ’, was launched in June 2010 for observations on various aspects of club culture now an online touchstone for an ever-increasing amount of dance enthusiasts and aficionados.

In August 2010 he co-curated areas at the inaugural Vintage Festival at Goodwood, which was named ‘Best New Festival’ at the UK Festival Awards.

He has produced a series of documentary podcasts, Time Capsule, Random Influences and Early 80’s Floorfillers, as well as the long-running blog series, Living To Music.

Greg has given talks on music and DJ culture at a number events at venues The Tate Gallery in Liverpool and London's Southbank and Institute Of Contemporary Arts, whilst in 2013 he was invited onto a panel alongside legendary figures Nile Rodgers and Giorgio Moroder @ ADE in Amsterdam. 

In 2014 he unveiled the multi-media label Super Weird Substance, focusing on recording and live events. In 2015, the label released 8 vinyl singles, brought together in the 2 CD comp, 'Greg Wilson Presents Super Weird Substance'. September 2015 saw a memorable Festival No.6 Happening in Portmeirion and Greg rounded off the year with the Liverpool-based celebration of the 40th anniversary of his first club date in 1975 as well as being presented with DJ Magazine's Industry Icon award.

Greg launched his Credit To The Edit club collective at 2016's Festival No.6 and since then has taken it to Liverpool, Berlin, Brixton, Bethnal Green and finally back to Portmeirion for Festival No.6 2017.

2017 saw his label host the epic 14 Hour Super Weird Happening at Liverpool's Florrie, following a mixtape collaboration with Alan Moore, who also appeared at the Happening, whilst it also saw the digital release of The Super Weird Society's 'Gone With The Vibe', released the following year on the first Substance Select 12" vinyl alongside 'The Ghosts Of Watling Street', 'The Best Is Yet To Come' and 'Summer Came My Way'. 2018 also saw the release of Vol.3 in Greg's long-running Credit To The Edit compilation series.

After a handful of further releases, the label was put into hibernation with the onset of covid. Diversifying, ‘Greg Wilson’s Discotheque Archives’ was issued during 2020 lockdown as a limited run paperback, with more books, both Wilson’s own projects and by other authors, now planned.
