A few months back I was studying different arpeggiation styles with my friend MACE, and we listened obsessively to Hania Rani’s incredible piece Buka; from there I decided to dive deep into this particularly amazing phrase she has in that piece, and to explore all the ways I could transform it by playing it with synths and resequencing it by using a gridless arpeggiator I made in Max for Live, which you can download at this link:

It's been a long time since I posted a mix but after a [mostly] enjoyable battle I was finally able to put something together that I'm really happy with and excited to share.

I had wanted to do something a little slower for a long long time but never managed to see it through. Then about about 4 weeks ago I decided to dedicate myself to the task and spent a few hours each day over a weekend going through all of my records, picking out anything that I could get to roughly the speed I wanted and then tried to figure it out from there. And try I did. The end result, I hope you'll agree, is a slow burning backroom teaser for those looking to escape the madness of the main room and spend a little quality time with their strange uncle Slagbat. A cheeky stomper, you might say.

I would also like to give a big ups to my amazing friends who over the last 12 months recommended some of the albums that I found tracks on for this this mix. Also a big bark out to The House of Dog for being the best darn record shop/dog house there is.

This album was improvised and recorded live and in one take together with Berlin based dance researcher Cindy Denner in september 2017. 

it is meant to be part of an ongoing series and is based on 11 short field recordings Cindy took on a recent visit to a Berlin museum. 

the main idea for this series is to focus on the audible perception of body, space and movement and thus try to make visual experiences such as exhibition visits, performances and dance performances audible.

Special Interest Group is the first compilation to be released on Cultivated Sound, featuring tracks from both experimental artists, ambient, and dance music artists locally in New York and internationally.

This compilation expands the dynamic range of electronic music by incorporating a variety of sounds from ambient, electronic to electro-acoustics to noise, house and techno.

“Special Interest Group” represents a post-utopian vision on forming a community of artists that narrates the experience of traveling to an imaginary reality, sharing a collective interest in expanding the listener's perception of sound by experimenting and advancing sound from machines and acoustic instruments. By inputting information, creating an environment to learn, collaborate, reflect and address ideas to each other. This compilation showcases Cultivated Sound’s aesthetic and pursues in sound, also is a tribute to the place that can be inhabited but is nevertheless a mirage.

The three tape album is mastered by Ryan Wurst, featuring artwork and photography by Tayla Roberge. A limited version of 100 copies will be released as a special art edition in collaboration with PASP, releasing both physically and digitally.
