Wicked Woods was honestly the best festival I attended this summer.  From the intimate vibes while still being such a party.  Seeing a lot of homies who are all so insanely talented get a chance to really shine in front of a crowd.  Making new connections and leaving inspired and with new plans to push our community forward.  I couldn't be happier.

Shambhala 2023 - Su Casa (fka 🐇🤫)

The Secret Garden at Shambhala was one of the highlights of my life for more than one reason and it comes with a bit of a back story.  

For some of us who live with ADHD, or at least for me, perfectionism is rampant through all aspects of your life but for me it manifests in a pretty intense way when I share my art.  

When I am booked for events, even if it's months before, I become an anxious wreck and start planning what I am going to play with a huge amount of self doubt and heavy criticism.  For some reason when I got booked for Shambhala, a music festival I have been going to on and off since 2001, I think the anxiety of being perfect was too much and I couldn't start preparing for it... my brain just wouldn't let me.  Every time I tried, I went through waves of imposter syndrome, self doubt and had the meanest inner voice bullying me.

The day before I left to go to Shambhala I sat down to prepare after work and instantly started getting the worst migraine of my life, like my brain was being melted.  I couldn't look at the computer and had to go to sleep.  I slept for like 18 hours that night and when I woke up, all my anxiety was gone.  The crushing perfectionism wasn't there anymore and I just knew that whatever I played was going to be fine.

After going all your life with a heavy amount of perfectionism and anxiety, I can't tell you what it feels like to wake up without it.  I cried.

I packed up and without preparation left for Shambhala where I didn't feel anxiety once that whole weekend and still haven't since the event.  The whole weekend was perfect and everything from start to finish just kept flowing and getting better for me.  

My Secret Garden set rolled around and in front of all my friends got to play this set that I feel truly represents me and what I do.  It's not perfect, but I kinda like that now.

I was asked to play a wedding for two stranger's celebration of love and quickly gained a new mid-west family.  When I asked how they would describe their love in 1 word they said "Synergy".

They requested a party set with some influences from India as well as a couple songs throughout that had special meaning for them.
