Volatile Cycle, a name that is becoming firmly cemented into the upper echelons of cutting edge drum and bass is taking the scene by storm with their take on the darker end of the drum and bass spectrum. Consisting of 2 members, Dan Lawrence and James Chick, they began experimenting individually with genres such as garage and glitch hop and eventually found their niche in drum and bass. Building up their rep with a slew of releases on a number of reputable drum and bass outputs, they have worked 
their way up through the ranks to finally drop their debut LP on the seminal and beloved label Renegade Hardware. The Reaktiv LP is a masterclass in drum and music, showcasing their highly refined technical ability, yet still retaining the classic style reminiscent of the early Hardware days. Opening track ‘Wrench’ sets the tone, cutting through with razor sharp precision, whilst ‘Reckless’ and ‘Obey’ dominate the dancefloor with pulsating sub frequencies and rattling percussions. Newcomer to the scene Yen joins forces to unleash sinister undertones with ‘Forgotten Future’, whilst Russian neurofunk whizz Cod3x teams up with the duo to kill the dance with ‘Bounce. Nuklear MC puts his lyrical stamp on the track ‘Status’, a stripped back roller designed to cause maximum dancefloor damage. The Reaktiv LP is a huge milestone for Volatile Cycle. Showcasing their production chops, yet demonstrating an impressive degree of 
versatility. Volatile Cycle are set to officially make their mark and rise up to contend with the household drum and bass names. 2016 is their year and they will be taking no prisoners. The year is 2016. The year is Volatile Cycle.

Opening this release, a glassy, plucky and precarious intro with airy and angelic vocal pads battling a rising structure of edgy drums for space. Suddenly we’re thrown in the deep end as a seriously sinister bass cuts in, expertly chopped and filtered in the lead up to a drop that will leave you utterly poleaxed. Chucked around like a skinny kid in a mosh pit by some ferocious, gnarly stabs accompanied by a vicious snare this one twists and turns like an out-of-control roller coaster. Signature Minor Rain production throughout this track make for a fantastic display of well thought out engineering. Constantly moving and changing and captivating to the end.

A couple of days early, but I thought i'd put a up a new mix over the bank holiday. Seeing as it's my birthday tomorrow as well, I'll call this a gift to everyone that has downloaded / listened to a mix of mine. It is massively appreciated!

Anyway, standard procedure, mixed on 3 decks using Traktor. Just under an hour this time with a little something different at the end.

Only difference here is i'm not going to put a track list up, I don't want to spoil some of the surprises :D but if people refuse to listen without then i'll put one up.

A true pioneer of the Drum and Bass sound, Gridlok remains one of the most highly regarded artists in the industry. With a discography spanning over a two decades and featuring classics such as ‘Moodswings’, ‘Bottomfeeder’, and ‘Standing Room Only’, it’s little wonder that the Gridlok name has become synonymous with timeless Drum and Bass.

Involved with music from an early age, Ryan Powell aka Gridlok picked up a variety of instruments, but it was after experimenting with a cheap radio shack microphone paired with a 4-track tape recorder that he soon found himself in the murky world of production. Now with the use of a computer and an E-mu sampler along with an ever-changing combination of analogue gear and production techniques, this West Coast producer has led by example, constantly exploring new ways of injecting emotion and attitude into his art. 

The grimy uncompromising style that Gridlok has developed forms the foundation for his glittering career, gaining him the attention of his peers with household names such as Shy FX, Pendulum, and Dom and Roland lining up to work with the American producer. Acknowledged by artists in and out of Drum and Bass, Gridlok has put his spin on other genres, remixing for the likes of electronica giant Josh Wink and house legend Sasha. Gridlok’s original music and remixes have also branched into other media, with his work appearing in titles such as Konami’s Dance Dance Revolution and MTV’s Challenge series. Covering a wide spectrum within Drum and Bass, Gridlok’s versatile production has allowed him to release on a diverse range of labels, spanning from Ram Records and Playaz to Commercial Suicide and Moving Shadow, whilst maintaining his signature sound....
