Exclusive: Damiano von Erckert - Moons

After his second full EP on Aus Music Damiano von Erckert releases his first full EP, namely Space, Diversity, No Limits, on Live At Robert Johnson and returns to the label after a first contribution, Hideaway, to the Lifesaver Vol. 4 compilation at the end of last year. Again it seems as if the artist used the time when the club-world stood still to refine his sound and create dreamy yet dance floor-oriented music that is still classy and classical enough to be considered as House music but, despite too many productions, manages the balancing act of writing intriguing melodies that never come close to be linked to a bigger or wider crowd, even when they easily can. Moons, the EP's A1, has a rather percussively influenced foundation, which kind of serves as an organic and warm counterpart to the uplifting but darker or rather melancholic sound-passages and sequences which are perfectly rounded off with some vocals. In the course of the track Damiano additionally implements glitchy bleeps that lead into a piano-driven synth-line and stay until the end. Moons is yet another piece written by Damiano that creates these euphoric but contemplative moments on the dance floor, whatever you are ready for or the context it is played in.

Insult To Injury head honcho, Timothy Clerkin, returns to the Ransom Note Records sub-label with four Acid-infused slices of analogue vulgarity, aimed squarely at the newly opened dance floors! 

We kick off with the eponymous “Plasticity”; beginning as a fun, bouncy, Acid number, the vortex soon opens up before us & we’re sucked into a black hole of sound, where time & space is stretched to its limits, disorienting all those who enter. However, we’re spat safely out the other side, landing on luscious bed of warm analogue synthesis, towards home. 

Lead single from the EP, “Would?” is a collaboration with ITI alumni, Buran. Created remotely during lockdown, this reinterpretation of the classic 90’s Alice In Chains anthem has aggressive 909’s thumping & distorted 303’s squelching, as the guitar riffs & vocal melodies of the original are replayed for the club. All proceeds from this single will be going to Mind UK, in tribute to Alice In Chains singer, Layne Staley, who sadly died of an overdose in 2002. 

“Mercurial” is so called due to its ever changing direction: a hard one to attribute to any one genre, it was recorded live with four synths and an 808; proof that sometimes the simplest ideas are the best. “Order 66” closes us out with a shotgun blast of Hardcore / Breaks - a nod to the lofi sampling culture of the early 90’s UK scene, the classic orchestral rave stabs take us back to the golden age of the warehouse party… Whistles at the ready, ravers!

However, on February 24, 2022, Russia attacked Ukraine and now the main efforts of UAnimals are focused on rescuing animals in this situation. We help shelters financially, we provide them with food and try to evacuate animals to other countries.

Returning exactly a year after his Indastria 2028 EP, Main Course main man Bot is back with a quadruple a-side package entitled simply and fittingly as 'Bot Music'. This is exactly what it claims to be, a diverse yet obviously related collection of tracks showcasing his talents and abilities to produce any sound and style, with an undeniably unique twist. Scream 85 has flute, breakbeat and shrieks, but don't call it trap. To us, it sounds like the best Hello Nasty era Beastie Boys beat that never was. But is now *facemelt* . Monky Man is an anthemic war cry heard before The Planet of the Apes do Civil War. Just think about that one – so many headless Apes lying dead, but lets not ever mention this to PETA. Now, what do you get when you combine an Alaksan, some proper garage vibes and an Italian living in London? A: Fribay featuring Astronomar. This ones a burner, innit? Finally, Federjet rounds out the pack. We thought it should be called Snails Farting, but we think it was named after a Russian tennis player. Makes sense I guess. Bot Music for the win in straight sets! Fore!

Bot is soo Italian, he'll judge you if you order a cappuccino at a time other than breakfast, and speaks with his hands much more than normal. What is normal anyway though? His drums are proper sick. Newly relocated to Los Angeles, Bot is working hard to redefine his productions as a solo artist and broaden his sound palette since departing that famed duo we don't need to mention anymore. Look into it, or maybe don't; just listen. There's more than enough to get familiar with, as 2013 saw 2 releases on Steve Aoki's Dim Mak Records, plus EPs on Fake Blood's Blood Music, and his home for many years, Southern Fried. Stay tuned for the upcoming Bot & Wafa 'MSMFN' EP coming in July on Main Course, plus his triumphant return to North America this summer on the Main Course Mutant Club Tour.
