Zico MC is proud to present his latest release:  #WheresZico2
The genre-defying MC has been hard at work over the last two years, smashing out live shows up and down the country, as well as honing his talents in other ways, in preparation for this new project.

Following on from its predecessor in 2017, this second instalment boasts the same levels of skills and mic dexterity that have made the Newcastle MC a crowd-pleasing favourite in the UK and beyond.

#WheresZico2 is a heady mix of genre spanning rhythms, which Zico deftly owns, thanks to his ability to switch up his flows with ease.
He is not alone for this new audio journey, as a number of notable producers and MCs lend their respective talents to the proceedings.
For the production credits he is joined by a whole range of beat makers, including Dove, Runaway Music, Sir Hiss and Higherself, while on the vocal side of things there are appearances from the likes of NE Dons, Kema Kay and Eyeconic.

The whole project is rounded off nicely with a suitably strong posse cut featuring Listaa, Max Gavins, NE-O, Rex Regis and E-Mence, as the six MCs trade bars over some wavy production from AlexayBeats.
The entire project sits as a worthy addition to Zico’s back catalogue and also as a healthy reminder that the UK scene is flourishing across the entire country, from North to South and East to West.

Up ft Eyeconic & NE Dons

L’idea di questo progetto nasce in parte perché adoro le mixate lunghe; con le entrate che montano lentamente e le uscite che sfumano piano piano. Gli stacchi veloci riusciti non sembrano così frequenti, e i dj di rap spesso si servono di effetti ed echi vari per cercare di coprire i vuoti lasciati dalle basi uscenti: nel rap la strumentale libera a disposizione non lascia molte alternative.
Ed in parte nasce per via della mia grande passione per la techno (che è il genere che suono), e le mixate a 3 deck. Mixare con 3 giradischi in contemporanea credo sia una novità per il rap.
Ecco perché ho fatto qst lavoro

Con 3 canzoni insieme, se si gioca con l’equalizzazione ed i volumi, si riesce a mostrare più fortemente un brano, mentre lo si modifica con i suoni degli altri 2 pezzi sotto. Inoltre si può ruotare la canzone tenuta in primo piano, così da rendere il lavoro non statico, ma mutevole: prima il primo deck, poi il secondo, il terzo, di nuovo il secondo…. In continua evoluzione.
Da qui il titolo: panta rei

Ogni mixata è stata registrata individualmente, così che, per l’intero progetto (esclusa la bonus track), si abbiano costantemente : o 3 canzoni che viaggiano insieme, o 2 canzoni in mix più un’interpolazione (altra piccola novità); cioè una singola frase presa da un disco di jazz, o di musica classica: così da avere una pennellata di colore lunga pochi secondi.

Per completare l’opera, ho messo delle acappella (prese sempre dai vinili) e ho chiamato repper e dj da tutta Italia, e ringrazio Facebook per qst. Alcuni col nome (13 B), e freschi di successo (DJ Color), altri sconosciuti e alle prime esperienze. 
I DJ sono riuscito a sparpagliarli lungo l’intero progetto, mentre gli MC sono stati un po’ più difficili e quindi li troverete solo su alcune prod.

I MIGLIORI PENSIERI di Sando Orrù aka DJ Gruff, Clementino e Gianluca Petrella è il brano introduttivo dell’omonimo progetto discografico corale che coinvolge più di 200 artisti tra musicisti, cantanti, attori rappers e writers, uniti con lo scopo di sostenere Emergency attraverso una raccolta fondi a favore di chi sta operando contro il COVID-19.

“Ci servono i migliori pensieri” è la frase che Gruff e le sue voci ripetono come un mantra, nel tentativo di regalare 7 minuti di ottimismo agli ascoltatori.

In questa prima traccia, il rap di Clementino si alterna a quello di Oyoshe e di Militant A (Assalti Frontali), la cantante Petra Magoni invita ad apprezzare il tempo lento di quest’oggi, mentre il trombonista Gianluca Petrella ne impreziosisce la melodia, cadenzata dalle percussioni del salentino Roberto Chiga (Notte della Taranta). Le voci di Asia Argento, Frankie Hi Energy, Corrado Fortuna, DJ Ralf e altri fuoriclasse del cinema e della musica, che hanno contribuito alla generazione del brano, vengono scratchate dalle mani esperte di Gruff, anche ideatore dell’intera base accompagnatrice.

L’idea nasce da una telefonata intercorsa tra Sandro Orrù e Dario Fichera, perfusionista cardiovascolare dell’azienda ospedaliera dell’Università di Padova, in trincea da giorni, sin dalla primissima diffusione del virus COVID-19.

Fichera invita Gruff a supportare il corpo dei medici e degli infermieri con la sua musica, così come già fece nel 2015, quando l’operatore sanitario e l’artista organizzarono il tour italiano del “Camps Breakerz Crew”, progetto a sostegno della danza, dell’arte e dell’istruzione, che tramite una raccolta fondi mirata aveva l’obiettivo di garantire studi a molti ragazzi profughi di Gaza.

Le parole di Fichera commuovono Gruff, che si muove immediatamente, diffondendo un appello a musicisti, cantanti, attori, rappers e writers.
«Via le barriere, via i conflitti, in questo momento difficile per l’Italia, uniamoci nella musica e insieme, da lontano, ognuno porti il suo messaggio.» DJ Gruff.

In pochi minuti arrivano le registrazioni: chi da cellulare, chi dallo studio, e poi le musiche che sono tante, troppe per un solo brano. Così il progetto si amplia e nasce l’idea di un album, che si comporrà di brani ciascuno in uscita cadenzata, rispondendo alla (non) logica di questo tempo incerto e sospeso.
