El Hornet Presents - The 90 Second Maximum Compilation

Throughout my entire career as a musician I have had a seemingly endless folder of short demos, lost projects files,
things I’ll get to later but never actually will and assorted other abandoned ideas.
Some of them make up the best things I’ve ever written and for reasons that only the universe can explain, they remain unfinished or forever in limbo.

Strangely so many of these ideas seem to clock in at 90 Seconds and the idea to release a compilation album of them was born. Knowing how many people had mountains of similar short tunes, I assembled a crew of 59 artists and myself, making 60 in total. Each of us has unearthed something that we hold dear, or created something especially for the project. While focusing primarily on Drum and Bass there is other genres represented like Dubstep, Jungle, Breakbeat and Hardcore.

The 90 Second Maximum was initially a project geared around showing love to the records in history that mean the most to me. The time length allowed on my favourite social media outlet is 90 Seconds, and over the last 18 months I have been creating a body of content that is pure love from the heart. Sending flowers to the music and the music makers who have touched me the most. 

Now it is time to showcase some amazing musicians and in the process set free some of the magic these people have created. The compilation features a host of names but some notable mentions are Rusko, Ekko and Sidetrack, Zak Meow, Sadie, Physics, Armour, Kintsuku, Sample Bandit, Nixon and Pete Cannon.

WORLDWAVE -
The Vigil blasts into superluminal travel, light gently swirling and bending around the vessel as it speeds through the system. As the tangle of starships surrounding the Warp Gate clear from their view, the team finally gets a good look at the incredible beauty of where they are. Elysium, a main-sequence star, shines its wonderful white light, bounding off the titanic plumes of purple gas that are the edge of the Carina nebula. In the far distance, the ever-expanding cloud of the dying Eta Carinae star system illuminates the deeper reaches of the cloud. Tiny specks of light adorn the warp-lanes between the planets as large freighters visibly zip about. Around the star, one celestial body is most prominent of all. The gas giant Chiron, with its rich, deep purple cloud layers. The planet around which ‘Hades’, more officially known as ‘The Flower of Perseus’, orbits steadily. At this distance, though, it is still just a modest speck of light.
Jules dramatically spins his chair around to face Ray and the team. “So,” he says, slapping his hands down on his knees, “What’s the plan? Why are we finding ourselves in the galaxy’s asscrack again?”
Ray’s face turns into a mock-scowl, jokingly offended. He shakes his head. “First off, it is the flower of Perseus,” he says to Ana’s amusement, “And, to be quite honest, I… actually just wanted to call it for once.”
Ana giggles at Ray’s response as Redd and Jakk look at him judgingly.
Ray notices their ire and puts his hands up in honest defense. “No, like, there’s a ton of shit to do there. Relax. We have some money, we can do some shopping, get some R&R, you know. The Works.”
“The Works?” Redd scoffs, raising a brow.
“No,” Ray says, exasperated, “Like-”
“Be careful with your language, dude,” Jakk quips, “She’ll find you a JOB.”
“Oh, don’t you worry,” Redd says, putting her hands on her waist, “someone has to keep this garbage team in one piece. And funded,” she raises a finger, “because we are never flying on nothing but food bars, EVER AGAIN!”
“Yeah, no, that was fucking terrible, enough of that,” Jakk says weakly as everyone murmurs in disapproval of the bland rations.
“For fuck’s sake,” Ray sighs.
