in 2003 Steve Raskin, Rob Myers, Jon Horvath, and Sid Barcelona formed Fort Knox Five in Washington, D.C. as a project to explore all things funky, regardless of genre or tempo. From the beginning, the vibe was retro, the sound was funk, and the beats were fresh. 20 years into it and FK5 are still going strong!

Another Decade of Funk continues the musical journey started on 10 years of Fort Knox Five released in 2013. That compilation showcased the origins and evolution of the Fort Knox sound and created the foundation for the decade that followed.

The story of the second decade kicks off with Fort Knox Five’s sophomore studio album,
Pressurize The Cabin. This collection features some choice gems from that release including the boom bap party anthem "Reach”, featuring Flex Mathews.  Mustafa Akbar drops the funk on “Whatcha Gonna Do” and “Keep it Poppin” while legendary British trombonist and soul crooner Ashley Slater brings the heat on “Fire in my Belly.” (Available here as a radio edit for the first time)

After a chance meeting with Sir Joe Quarterman, one of D.C.’s legendary singers from the 70’s, the group cooked up the floor burner “Don’t Go”, which captures the vibe of D.C.’s classic funk era. “Give it a Minute” pushes the hometown influence into the future with its Go-Go meets 808 jeep beats topped by the bouncing crisp flow of Bcap. 

In 2017 Steve relocated to British Columbia and some incredible collaborations followed starting with the modern funk-meets-glitch hop banger “Jinglin’ Janglin’” with K+Lab, featuring vocals by hip hop royalty Baby Bam (Jungle Brothers). The “DC to BC” series grew, teaming up with Slynk on “Keep the Funk Real”, and with Lazy Syrup Orchestra on “Start the Ride”, both exploring some west coast mid tempo vibes. 

Alongside these future forward collaborations, the classic FK5 sound can be heard loud and clear on “Playing with Fire” featuring Emily Molloy as well as the funky instrumental groover “McGuires Audio Shop.” 

The 11 tracks on Another Decade of Funk celebrate the funky flavors that Fort Knox Five have been creating over the last decade, and see the continued evolution of the group taking the FK sound straight into the future. 

Fort Knox Recordings thrives as a melting pot of genres, where Funk, Breaks, House, Downtempo, Trip-Hop, and more find their rightful home. Starting out with a true legend All Good Funk Alliance, who has taken the Go Move track featuring Andy Copper for a funky joy ride though some classic breaks and funky grooves. Followed by a big atmospheric redo of Global Chemistry by Mined Music who&rsquo;s taken a melodic hiphop twist on the otherwise oldskool original. The funky supersonic beat force Sonale came in on point as he turns the King Of Rock into his own on a beat and bass heavy funky remix. Freethinker Funk Essence takes a more chillout approach on one of the more instrumental track on the album called Nothing Gonna Change His Way.Roast Beatz takes it back on the floor with the dance friendly funky house remix of the Go Move&nbsp;featuring&nbsp;Andy Cooper on some classic disco funk grooves.Finally we see UK-based Towlie DJ taking the wicked B-Boy Impressions on a funky Drum &lsquo;N&rsquo; Bass ride to firmly conclude the first volume of the Hip Hop Delivery remixes. Breakbeat Paradise Recordings is back with another big vinyl release from the amazing producer duo Lack Jemmon, which consists of DJ Clairvo and Kid Panel, who are both well-established producers, DJs and label owners on their own. Together they are an explosive cocktailed of big funky grooves, filthy glitcy basslines and banging beats!

Lack Jemmon has been around for a couple of years and quickly signed up with the successful ghetto funk label Scour Records where they have dropped a few tunes and remixes. When the boys reached out to us and said they had 4 bangers they wanted to drop on vinyl we didn’t hesitate to say Hell Yeah!

The self-titled EP showcases their style of heavy breaks and funky basslines perfectly across the 4 bangers that are tried and tested for complete dancefloor destruction.

A1. The EP kicks off with a big remix on the catchy Olly’s Heartbeat, which has been infused with some heavy duty basslines and some rocking electronic funk beats. Pure fire!

A2. The party continues on the second cut where the boys are really getting serious on another catchy riff and some party rhymes to go with the steady beats and glichy basslines. Let’s not forget the beautiful hook from the original 90s dance anthem to complete this perfect joint – Who’s Serious!

B1. Just as we though this couldn’t get any better Lack Jemmon cooked up another banger for the b-side called The Party Riddim. As the name suggest it harvests some big reggae grooves and vocals mixed with some party rocking beats.

B2. To showcase a different side to the duo Would You?! is a funky house arrangement with some smooth disco grooves and a party rocking rap acapella. A perfect way to end this double A-sided wax of bangers!

During the summer months, seagulls reign with an iron claw. Surrendering locals into a post apocalyptic atmosphere reminiscent to Mad Max. Just less motorbike gangs and more chips.

For the first of our bootleg series we have recruited the Souths cream of the crop (Not from the many Friesian cattle littering the country). They’re not bronzed surf hero’s, hell no! The only tan they’ve got is a creamy coat of pale from their computer screens, applied whilst awkwardly fidgeting into the early hours to bring you this Devine buffet of festival bullets!

B-Side, El Bomba, Cockney Nutjob (Honorary Southerner) & label boss Roast Beatz. Each inject some much needed swagger into this 4 track EP to show you how they handle wrecking the party Southside! Read on for a more visual representation….

Cockney Nutjob hits the ground running with a Reggae themed stomper “Roar” which will entice a medley of speed flossing and slut drops pon de dance floor. Hot on his heels El Bomba steams through half naked (bottom half) to take the vibes up a notch with “Start Moving Some”. Once he’s finished pleasuring the people Roast and B-side are beckoned from a cloud of smoke that would give Wiz Khalifa a semi with their re-flip of “Un-fadeable.” Not satisfied with the destruction of the dance floor Uncle Roasty peels of his shirt to reveal an egg stained wife beater to finish the massacre with an infectious funk/house mash-up “Taking it back” which is sure to become a staple for your sets.

Grits n Gravy is the brainchild one of Perth's favourites, Philly Blunt and UK breaks guru D-Funk. 

Together these 2 cats have released music on the likes of Goodgroove Records, Manmade Records, Roca Records, Booty Pirates, Westway Records, Destination? Records, Warriorz, Sunday Best Records & of course D-Funk's own label, Upstart Music. They put their (limited) brain power together & came up with a master plan to help spread the love of the more funk end of the music they & their chums/chumps make & love.... and so Grits n Gravy was born.

Since inception we've put out release that have topped the Juno Download (all genres) chart on numerous occasions from the likes of Slynk, Tom Drummond, Mr Doris, Some DJ, Angry Buda, Bezwun, Sugar Ray Johnson, Ad'N'Kuts, Kidd Linus, Donewrong & of course Philly Blunt & D-Funk.

Sydney-based, British born DJ, D-Funk has amassed a fair few achievements in his 25-years on the decks. Making his club debut at The Depot in Bristol in 1995, he’s gone on to DJ all over the world, playing notable sets at Space Ibiza and Ministry Of Sound and released on labels including Sunday Best and Bombstrikes. 

Getting his first set of decks at 14, Doug initially fell for the sounds of jungle and techno before a night dancing to house icon Tony De Vit in 1997 turned him towards the slinkier sounds of house music. 

His DJ career began to take off during his time at university in Wolverhampton where he started to pick up gigs at the Canal Club and Mezzanine, playing alongside DJs including Joey Negro, Mr Fingers, Scott Bond and Lisa Lashes, before a move to the South-Coast town of Bournemouth led him to eventually start his own night ‘Break Da House’ in 2004. 

The night took off, attracting big names including The Stanton Warriors and Plump DJs and eventually led to D-Funk’s first release, the ‘Electrotek’ EP after Dub Pistols headlined one night and Barry Ashworth from the band decided to release Doug’s music on his Westway label. The track found its way onto a TV ad in Portugal, as well as becoming a mainstay on Kiss FM’s breakbeat chart and gave Doug the confidence to pursue a career as a producer as well as a DJ, eventually leading to releases on Adapted Records and Ghetto Funk among countless other labels over the next 15 years. 

Moving to Sydney Australia in 2009, Doug started his label Upstart Music, releasing his own productions alongside tracks from the likes of Crackerz & Jam, Niko & Lyall and Rogue Robot and later started the funk label Grits N Gravy alongside friend and funk producer Philly Blunt, with the label winning the ‘Best Label’ award at Perth Dance Music Awards in 2010. 

Since living in Sydney, Doug has held down residencies at The World Bar and The Standard/Middlebar for the best part of a decade, as well as regular slots at Sash, Ivy, Goros, Hugos and many others. He’s played events for high profile companies such as Blackberry, Telstra, Jagermeister,  Sydney Cricket Ground & Saatchi & Saatchi. But there was still demand for him back on the side of the world and he regularly returned to Europe to play at Space Ibiza (including a set at the penultimate night of Carl Cox’s Revolution party) as well as touring in the UK, Europe, Asia and Canada. 

Now 25 years into his career, Doug is about to mark the 10th anniversary of his label Grits ‘N’ Gravy, with a compilation due this year mixed by himself and Philly Blunt, and has been busy producing house, hip hop and nu-disco with his current production partner Mr Doris.
