Wake up slowly to another banger of a set by our Geju. Ever since the Russian duo set foot inside our Gardens we have been completely addicted to their sound. The longer they play the more interesting it becomes and like always we gave them a three hour set during our Amsterdam Dance Event together.

Enjoy and tell us what you think. Even though we pick up on the deep and dark sound of the two, it also picks up the pace. Unlike Geju? Or did we enter a new period of time for these supertalent.

Be as it may, we are obsessed once again.

The Brief Back Story:

The idea of a musically curated burn was seeded by the cacophony of inane sound that historically accompanied most burns. I have always felt that the spectacle and meaning of a burn can be radically enhanced with artwork appropriate music...

Gaia's Song was all about sound. About employing music as a reciprocal and an unequivocal voice between humans and all that is Mother Earth. 

Historically, the Temple has always represented reflections of melancholy (and its commensurate release by fire), as well as positive manifestations. 

Personally, Franki and I got married at Verity's Metamorphosis Temple in a ceremony that I still cannot quite put in words. In the same breath, the profound nature of the human spirit also tears me up from moment I read the first message to the last one every year.

So, it follows that I wanted to honour musically, the silent introspection of some and the voiced joy of others. My original vision included an ambient lead down into a period of silence before the lighting of the first flames. I had the piano strains of Samuel Yirga and the melancholic voice of Hope Sandoval in mind to lead us into silent reverie about 30 minutes before the burn. 

Then a beautiful ancient African horn call to attend to the ceremony worked in somewhere appropriately.

Silent Burns are borderline sacrosanct to me and are some of the most profound experiences of my life. But I felt that we could weave a new AfrikaBurn musical magic from the moment the first flames were lit with a couple of insanely powerful ambient tracks, climaxing with THAT Wicked Games cover at the peak of the burn. 

As the thousands of intentions floated up with the collapsing embers, it was always going to be a time for renewed hope and refreshed resolve. So, with some echoing religious chants still reminding us of the recent physical existence of Gaia's Song, the cosmic downtempo tracks were a reminder that Gaia's Song gifted release by F-a-y-a for those of us burdened and that it might be time to move on again, but also that, for many of us, the Temple represents and abundance of positive thoughts and joy.

Only days before the Temple Burn, after intense introspection and consultations, we decided to abandon the original ideas for the sake of the Silent Burn and to fashion something from where I ended up weaving in Wicked Games.  

I can still hear it, those first strains, indelibly etched into my memory...

"The world was was on fire and no one could save me but you.
It's strange what desire will make foolish people do."

Kazakhstan is not very well known for it’s electronic music scene but there are a few people who represent the country on a global scale and Aidar is one of them. He is a producer, promoter and a dj, wether it be his musical experiments under the alias of Wawawiwas or Cosmic Picnic festival and Elevation parties which are regularly held high up in Tian Shan mountains.

A true musical nomad and embassador of central asian music scene he has hosted shows on Energy FM, Proton Radio and shared decks with djs like Spiller, Shur-i-kan, Zuma Dionys, Volen Sentir, M.Rux, Britta Arnold, Mila Stern, Paul Traeumer, Tebra, Bora Uzer, Hot Since 82, Lehar and many more. 

Aidar’s music includes digital and vinyl releases in different genres on various labels such as Spring Tube, Nang, Rune Recordings, Mind Over Matter, UBER and others.
