Underground "soulful house" ==> mostly on the male vocalist tip (this time around) and a few nice instrumentals. Check out messages in songs' lyrics: their dedicated to the beautiful ladies that love the sounds of the underground and lively up the dancefloor. Get the ladies on the dancefloor and the dudes will follow...(LOL).

Recording this mix was hella fun and a good practice session. It has a couple of blunders but I still think is  good enough to upload. Flows nicely! Driving energy the whole way!

((  A "practice" mix session in my book is one where a DJ incidentally hits the "record" button and dives into the session for pure fun, maybe even a little experimentation with the music, not really caring how recording turns out---thinking he/she won't share it with others, anyway. These types of recorded mixes show a piece of a DJ's true musical identity.))

Practice: Soulful (VOCALS) House Music 4 The LADIES, Blended NYC/NJ Underground Stylee(March 2018)

The title of this mixtape -- "Grimey Era House" -- says it all: it basically consists of deeper (heavier/darker) house music from the late 80's to early 90's.  This was a time in club culture history (post Paradise Garage era) when most people still went to underground dance music clubs specifically to REALLY get their DANCE on ("Like nobody's watching," as they say). Nowadays, instead of getting lost in the groove way too many people want to worship the DJ and take pics and record everything going on to "share" with others not even present at the time. Seems a lots of folks prefer to do this rather than thoroughly enjoying the moment for themselves. Or, perhaps, I got it all wrong. Perhaps this is exactly how a lot of clubbers today actually maximize their enjoyment... Love it or hate it, this is the new club/DJ culture in today's internet/information/technological age. 

Remembering some of NYC's hottest, happenin' spots after the beloved Paradise Garage closed: Lovelite, Snob Busters, Bassline (@ 21 Hudson St.), Wild Pitch (roving parties), The Choice, The World, etc...
