Back in 2019, Leng Records offered a debut to a previously unheralded producer, Takovoi. Three years on, the Russian nu-disco specialist returns to the label with a five-track EP that displays the depth and quality of his rapidly evolving trademark sound.

The Perfect Match EP delivers a range of grooves and stylistic approaches while showcasing the producer’s love of dreamy Balearic chords, soft-touch synth sounds and colourful melodies.

He sets the tone with the EP-opening title track, ‘Perfect Match’ where sustained, sun-down chords, yearning lead lines, cascading piano motifs and twinkling electronics ride a shuffling, post-electro beat and a warm, undulating bassline. ‘Homesickness’ sees Takovoi wrap waves of rising and falling synth sounds and melancholic melodies around a deep, hypnotic nu-disco groove, while the slow-motion sensation that is ‘Dreams’ brings throbbing analogue bass, sustained piano chords, sparkling electronics and the gentlest of beats.

Takovoi’s dancefloor credentials come to the fore with ‘Bubbles’, a slowly building Balearic nu-disco gem that layers up echo-laden percussion hits, eyes-closed melodies, and drowsy synth sounds over a bustling beat that sits somewhere between deep house and TR-808-driven broken beat. 

This off-kilter approach to beat programming continues on the EP’s inspired closing cut, ‘Another The Same’, where hazy female vocal samples, immersive chords and reverb-heavy musical motifs gingerly dance on a bouncy and densely layered 4/4 beat. When the main melody makes its presence felt midway through, the track is elevated to a whole new level altogether. It’s a fittingly impressive end to Takovoi’s new EP for Leng.

Eva started DJing in Edinburgh where she lived for about 9 years, before moving to Berlin in the summer of 2020. Playing the bass since she was a teenager, she started swapping live music for DJ sets after she discovered clubbing in the Edinburgh underground scene.

Getting inspiration from 70s soul music and groovy basslines, her eclectic selection mixes original songs, edits, and remixes, blending modern sounds with nostalgia: House Music with a pinch of Disco, a touch of Funk and a whole lot of Soul.

Off the back of his superb new ‘Love Is Emotion’ EP on Delusions Of Grandeur, we invited Okayama-based Sano-san to our podcast series where producers mix only their own material, and he’s come up trumps with an hour of exclusive, unreleased material. From hard disco to funky acid workouts to bugged out broken beats, it’s the sound of an endlessly creative artist at work.

We’ve had a soft spot for the productions of this weeks guest for some time now. We first posted about him back in October 2010 and have lapped up his productions ever since. ‘The Dead Rose Music Company’ created his alias around a fictitious story involving feuding families and has since shed this mysterious origin in favour of a more honest and upfront approach. What started as reverb heavy edits of guilty pleasures has evolved into some of the most exciting productions of the past year putting out tracks on WOLF, Kolour, Sleazy Beats, Lets Play House and shortly on our House of Disco imprint.

Todays mix from TDRMC is a live recording from his Red Bull Music Academy appearance in May that he recorded for us. So all mixing is done in real-time, the way it should be but often isn’t. Starting with a Marvin Gaye track that miles ahead of its time the mix is as eclectic as you’d expect. Loaded with typically heavy grooves and pushing a deep, clubby feel this mix showcases his great skills as a selector. Treading a line between the depths of reverberating house and the enthusiasm of disco and soul the mix progresses with plenty of confidence and a woozy strength. There’s even some swing in there among his unreleased tracks, to which we’re privy a sneak peek. We caught up with him and chatted about fixing things, reverb, split personalities and of all topics…… ABBA!

recorded at l'embobineuse , marseille, on the 21/10/10 at the start of the full moon cycle, this recording is the 1st encounter between simon carter and jason leach, after many years of being aware of each other's music. This represents the best hour or so of what was initially the longest soundcheck of all time. Its 100 percent off the cuff ( apart from the crude editing) and the voices were dubbed on later to enable this show to be broadcast on the "pitchless" show , www.illfm.net , 27/10/10. seriously WRONG tekno going on here, enjoy!!!!

Tiago is such a quietly unique mind of his own. Yet he incarnates so many different artistic personas. In fact, we could reference countless alias, so huge is the body of work done for many great labels around the world. On Groovement, TNT Subhead project emerged back in 2010 with a limited heavyweight red vinyl under a secretive identity, but it didn't last long. However, we didn't rush him to deliver a new one as usual nowadays. Now that the wait is over, the reward is big. 'Ecstasy & release' LP is finished and will be released soon. Before that… the single becomes available with a Tom Ov England aka Thomas Bullock remix. Dreamy package!

'We all need love' Tiago declares over his 'Ecstasy & release' title track from the TNT Subhead debut album. It's the kind of urge we recurrently feel. A message of hope and TRUST - name for his now legendary LUX residency, Lisbon's top club. There's a certain kind of hypnosis that builds and then unfolds the way to this big celebrative moment: the ecstasy & release climax!

Thomas Bullock adds his live & sexy Midas touch to Tiago's original. Tom Ov England, his newborn artistic project, seems to be playing a whole band, reinterpreting 'Ecstasy & release' on a very psychedelic Doors-esque state of mind. We love live music so this is much more that we could ever expect. It is indeed a rare gem to be found these days.
