As you can see in the picture, I am a child of the 70s. At that early age I was fascinated with playing (and collecting) records, falling in love with the infectious rhythms of the dance music from the era. 

This mix series “Disco Daze” is my tribute to the genre, ranging from classics, obscure cuts and more recent music that draws its inspiration from these sounds.

Volume kicks off with a Larry Levan produced gem from Jimmy Jones right up against Automatic's modern spin on the genre...

Salsoul Orchestra is sprinkled through the set, offering a fun take on an EWF classic and we close with Harold Melvin and the Blue Note's classic "The Love I Lost"

I've known Theo for years. We DJd together back in college (I learned my way around the booth doing lights for his shows.)He went on to spin in NYC and is now dropping killer remixes from his perch in Paris. This "mega-mix" is a compilation of his work, which was a blast to put together. Here's hoping someday we can command a booth together, at the same time. I GOT SOMETHIN HERE.

So, I have a whole bunch of Todd Terry 12"s in my collection. And Im way overdue putting this together. This "Mega-Mix" looks back to the Sound Design EP days, his collaborations with Martha Wash, a couple Black Riot tracks and closes out with the seminal classic "Missing" featuring EBTG/Tracy Thorn. And of course, the early house classic "Ill House You" with the Jungle Brothers.

It was a ton of fun going through these old records and putting this together. I hope you enjoy listening (and hopefully dancing!) to it as much as I had mixing it.

Goes without saying that Todd Terry is a house music pioneer. If you aren't familiar with his work, this is a great primer.

Ill House You: A Todd Terry Mega-Mix

I've put together a couple Sound Factory retrospectives over the years, but none have made it to my SC page yet. This particular mix is rather old (in fact I dubbed it here from cassette, remember those?) but all of these tracks stand the test of time. I was lucky to be there during the Junior days and this session was basically me channelling that vibe. Lots of Wild Pitch along with Masters at Work, Signal AD and some other tracks that brought me back to being in that room. The title says it all...The Sound Factory was basically a big huge room, with one giant disco ball, four massive speaker columns and a vibe like no other.

One Giant Mirror Ball Four Huge Speakers And A Feeling

Many years ago, my dear friend Wayne stopped by our Queens crib with a stack of freestyle on vinyl. So I set about creating this mix, chock full of freestyle classics. Expose, Stevie B, Nocera, Lisa Lisa, you name it. We had a blast putting it together.

Its dubbed from a cassette (depicted in the photo) so I tried as hard as I could to clean up the sound quality. Regardless, it evokes those hot summer days in NYC, boombox in hand, rocking' out the hits.

In honor of the Spring Equinox, ARISE features an uplifting array of driving techno beats.

Heavy Detroit influences here via Keith Kemp, Riva Starr, the Detroit Techno Militia Crew that kick things off.

The Acid kicks in not long after that and we get into a deeper vibe.

From there Shards brings back the energy with FLSVN and the inspirational mood takes over. Roland Clark takes the pulpit and Floorpan's incredible reworking of an Aretha Franklin classic takes us home.

Hope you enjoy the mix as much as I did putting it together.

Due to the recent fascination with the Sound Factory tribute I uploaded here years ago - I dug up the second cassette mix I did back in the early 90s in tribute to this legendary dance music institution.

While the first installment was really meant as a direct reflection of the music Junior would play for us, Part Two is a bit of my own "spin" on the vibe of the place, which was magical.

Music from the likes of MURK (of course), Lance Ellington, Lonnie Clark, Mood II Swing (of course), Johnny Vicious (of course), that Ethyl Meatplow record (you know the one) and a couple other gems that will definitely bring you back.

This is digitized from cassette  - but still sounds pretty good.
