Joe grew up in a musical family traveling around the world performing sacred and secular music with his parents, Fr. Ian and Caroline. He started out as a drummer playing Ian's Morning Glory mass then moved to guitar at age 16. Joe and his 3 sisters, Mary, Julie and Zanna, struck out on their own and formed a very popular band called the Fabulous Starlettes. At one time, the Starlettes employed drummer Dane Clark and bass player Jon E Gee of the John Mellencamp Band. They recorded a 5 song EP of Joe's tunes at legendary TRC studios in Indianapolis with Alan Johnson as engineer. Joe's tune "Tears of Joy" came in second place in a city-wide contest in Indianapolis (judged by radio personalities, Indianapolis Star staff reporters and musicians) which some 200 tunes were submitted. Recently, Joe moved from Indianapolis to the Upper Valley (Fairlee, VT) and formed the GrooveSum to perform his original music. The band's first gig was opening for legendary blues powerhouse Ana Popovic and Joe's song, Binnie Boom Boom, was selected as a winner in the CATV song contest in 2015. Joe is influenced by lots of different styles of music but especially the Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, SRV, the Beatles, Black Crowes, Sly and the Family Stone, Lenny Kravitz, the Allman Brothers - the list goes on!
