A new monthly series of mixtapes, in which we invite First Word friends & family to lace us with a selection of their soulful favourites, from across the board. For June's edition, we invite the Singapore-based, Darker Than Wax co-founder Dean Chew. On the mix Dean says:

'The mix moves through a tapestry of shades and moods - it is an extension of what I consider as ‘soul music’. As a selector, I have always been interested in the liminal, the in-between spaces, and how different genres of music can intersect with each other. With roots deep in the golden era of house, taking inspiration from UK Kiss FM legends like Paul ‘Trouble’ Anderson, Steve Jackson, and Bobbi & Steve in the mid-90s. A lifelong vinyl collector with over 30 years of crate-digging under his belt, he is on a mission to keep the spirit of underground house and garage alive—digging deep to unearth forgotten and unreleased gems that deserve the spotlight.
