FOOLiE - The Moog (Preview Clip)

The first four installments of the Bones to Pick series have been absolute units, each landing a spot on the Beatport Top 100 chart and garnering support from some of the scene's heavy hitters including Black V Neck, CODES, and Westend, just to name a few. Volume 5 is no different. Like the others that feature rising talent from cities near and far, the next installment showcases talent from the label's hometown, Charlotte, NC, as well as Canada, California and beyond.

Kicking off Bones to Pick Vol. 5 is Canada's Willy B. who has become a label mainstay, returning with 'How It Feels'. A stark cut of tech-house, the track hits listeners with a sub-heavy kick and grooving bass layered under sharp hi-hats, pitchy synths and a catchy vocal, these steady roller is primed for a good dance floor rinsing.

The next picked bone is from 35mm, who made some noise on Dirtybird's Birdfeed series last year. This track, titled 'BANG', is a straight up banger, like the name suggests. Delivering thumping bass off of the bat, this vigorous record features a deep, rolling bass line, bubbling sound effects and a loud fuzzy horn. Reminiscent of the early bizarre 'booty-house' sound in the bay, it is easy to see where this San Diego artist gets his inspiration from.

Hailing from Charlotte, WOAHH! makes his second appearance on Groovy Bone with his record 'House B!tches'. The track features syncopated percussion, buzzing synth sounds and snappy vocal that leads into a shuffling, hard-hitting drop. Driving bass pushes into the second drop, which rolls out a funky breakdown to finish the track.

Charlotte-based newcomer Mr. Alexander's 'Days and Nights'' is next up on the compilation. This uplifting record has more of a flowing feel to it than the other tracks on the release, but is no less a belter, with bouncing bass that is perfectly complemented with uplifting chords. Featuring an instant groove that continues to build on itself throughout the track, Mr. Alexander created a record that manages to sound classic with a new age house twist. It's safe to say you can expect more Groovy Bone content soon from this fresh hometown face.

Groovy Bone's VAs would be empty without our beloved Canadian artists, and Kevin Kaldas keeps that strong bond going with his song 'Eyo'. This high-energy cut sees Kaldas layer modulated synths and a glitchy vocal over a wobbling bass line. Building into the drop, the track meshes varying bizarre sound effects to create a stimulating record perfected for a peak hour set.

Oxigenate, a Houston-based artist, rounds out the comp with his track 'Damn Boy'. Kicking off the record, pumping synth pads, airy vocals and percussion sounds meet the listener's ear. Flowing into the drop, some nasty sound design and pounding subs are married with a crisp hi-hat and bright keys to create the perfect finish to a dynamic, energetic collection of tunes from beginning to end.

So, Torrfisk said things and made bleep bloops, while Frivolous Jackson finished a remix before Torrfisk even finished the original sauce. In the end, the gang all enjoyed the chicken.
