This week on Select, we have France-based Moroccan DJ, producer and Radio Flouka resident Leïla Koumiya with a stormy left-field bass set, mixing syncopated Amazigh rhythms and elements of dnb with chopped rap samples from the likes of Julmud and Caïn و Muchi.

Koumiya has cemented herself in the regional underground scene with her hybrid and versatile sets, exploring the nuances of her North African roots through a poetic blend of traditional sounds, polyrhythms, rap influences and percussive bass music.

The second single from Applause｜Paloma Colombe presents Dihya, Wings of Ashes by syqlone (@gaurmiua-ildrygs) is both raw and narrative. Syncopated club rhythms collide with references to Maghreb musical traditions. Blending hard drum and breakbeat, syqlone crafts a rhythmic fable inspired by an ancient tale of resilience and dignity.
It tells the story of people who, by stomping the ground as they dance, raise the ashes of all that was burned and turn them into wings. Rather than representing a single origin, syqlone builds a new language — one rooted in emerging electronic scenes shaped by layered heritages, sonic mutations and stories in motion.
For Paloma Colombe, Wings of Ashes embodies the club as a space of empowerment, healing and modern myth-making.

In 7RIQ, Koumiya navigates multiple languages, musical registers, and perspectives to explore a fierce, almost killing rage*: intimate reflections under the weight and suffocation of police oppression. This track introduces the first layer of her unique universe, blending English, French, and Darija with raw, unapologetic poetry. Koumiya crafts a bespoke sound that draws equally from bass, trap, drill, pop, and the resonant strings of her instrument, the buzuq.
