Not much to say. Messing around with 13 EDO, doing my best to try to make it interesting and harmonious. Uses fewer harmonically timbres -- glockenspiel, bells, nylon guitar, etc., and a square wave thrown in for good measure.

Opposites of Habit (13-EDO)

Orgone Temperament, discovered by Andrew Heathwaite, has a number of interesting properties: it is a relatively accurate temperament, low in complexity, and most decent tunings of its 7-note MOS are generally low in categorical entropy. Additionally, its 7-note MOS has a step pattern of LLsLsLs, which is readily picked up by the ear as resembling the "half steps" and "whole steps" of the diatonic scale.

This can be regarded either as a bug or a feature - either as an unwanted effect of our "western conditioning," or as an entirely new system with features that resemble, but are not identical to, the diatonic scale. This simple one minute study explores the latter perspective and its implications on "tonality." The basic "major" triad is set to 7:9:11 and the "minor" triad set to its inverse.

This piece is a variation of the original, retuned to 26-EDO. This is near the optimal harmonic tuning for Orgone, but melodically the scale is "improper", so that the major thirds are larger than the minor fourths.

The Hotel California progression again with a xenharmonic tuning (I did a similar track in 15, with the goal of drifting the dominant chord the opposite direction).

28-equal tuning allows the dominant chord (F#) to drift about 86 cents flat by the time the progression reaches the last bar. This results in a strange effect where the 12-equal ear reaches the end of the progression, and, expecting a dominant-to-tonic relationship, instead gets an unfamiliar-flavored tritone relationship.

These are some of my terrible old songs. New stuff is on my YouTube, including my album A New Dusk. These titles are in Esperanto because I'm autistic or whatever. Everything before "Floroj" is in alphabetical order because it was bulk uploaded, and can actually be as old as May 2014. You might notice that I slowly stop using major scales over time.
