I found the word "Preterist" in a very old  dictionary from the 1930s. There was a section at the back of the dictionary for discontinued words, so you can only imagine how old this word is! The dictionary definition of Preterist is someone who believes he is actually living in hell and I thought this was a fitting title for this song.

Kuato is the unlikely secret leader of the mutant resistance in the blockbusting 1980's film Total Recall. Once you see Kuato you understand why he keeps a low profile.

Kuato has clairvoyant powers and is conjoined at the stomach to twin adult brother George who is not mutated.

I envisaged the Groundwire T-shirts to have a 3D Kuato seemingly ripping out of the wearer's stomach. Convincing my band mates this was a good idea proved to be difficult.

Kuato's famous line in the movie was "Open your mind!" this was attached to the beginning of the original version of the song but ironically never saw the light of day.

Groundwire and skateboards were never far apart. This song was originally titled Ollie after a tricky skateboarding move that was designed to impress but often resulted in many a broken bone and bruised ego instead. Story of my life.

We later changed the name to Angular Spheres And Caverns because the name Ollie just wasn't confusing enough.

Groundwire originally consisted of three Enfield-based bandmates: Nick singing and playing guitar, his lifetime friend Darren on the drums and their schoolfriend Steven, also on guitar. We started rehearsing in Slippery Jacks studio in Harlow, where we met Ian, who played the bass. Many love letters to Ian later, the band was finally complete.

The line-up changed over the years to include Jamie on bass and Jonny Boy on drums, but our regular venue (the Square in Harlow) always stayed the same. Paul took a star turn on the drums and Ian sang his heart out as the frontman when Darren and Nick foolishly chose to jet off to Czech Republic in favour of the Harlow Battle Of The Bands final.

We had a brief moment of fame when we appeared on Harlow's Red TV cable station. Our 15 minutes was originally filmed after an especially raucous gig, but the unimpressed director claimed the tape had gone 'missing' and arranged to interview us again on a nearby, peaceful, grassy verge once we had sobered up. We still didn't make any sense though.
