The second volume of Invisible Inc’s 10-year anniversary celebrations has landed, hot on the heels of the scorching first volume.

Where Volume 1 focussed on the dub-style, electronic and ambient side of the label’s output, the second volume leans towards the ‘psych’ side of the label.

As has been a consistent pattern with the label in its decade of existence is its ethos of releasing new and exclusive tracks as well as releasing on vinyl pre-existing tracks that only ever saw the light of day in the digital realm. This compilation is no different. Alongside exclusive new material from Anna vs June, E Ruscha V, Banda Magnética, Exotic Gardens, Kanot and a Coyote remix of Sordid Sound System we also have for the first time on vinyl two tracks by Hena and Futurum that went somewhat under the radar first time round and really deserved to be shared with the wider world.

Hena is Ukrainian producer Volodymyr Gnatenko. I first heard "Nuan" in a mix by Andrea Ida & immediately needed to know what it was. Pure peyote-powered desert music that went under the radar and needed to be heard by more!

"Is It Balearic?" label boss Coyote does the honours and remixes the title track from Sordid Sound System's "Gimme Fever" LP turning it into a hypnotic acid dub mantra.

Swedish duo Kanot are Anton Kolbe (Tross) and Jesper Jarold (Fontän) joining forces to make dreamrock for psychonauts.

Also from Sweden are Futurum who sent me a promo of "Prado" over two years ago. A regular feature in my warm-up DJ sets, it's well overdue it being pressed up on wax!

Exotic Gardens is the alias of Peaking Lights' Aaron Coyes through which he finds a space for acidic experimentation enhanced by live dubstyle mixer operations.

LA-resident Eddie Ruscha, a frequent visitor to the label under his cosmic Secret Circuit alias, appears for the first time under his experimental ambient E Ruscha V moniker.

Banda Magnética is the brainchild of Hugo Capablanca (Discos Capablanca) & Borja Caro (Metametal) offering a mindpuzzler of improvised musique concrète.

Athens-based Anna vs June returns to the fold and closes the proceedings with a song of love, relationships, vulnerability and patience drenched in dreamy electronics.

Live from Berlin: Cosmo Vitelli is at the studio!

Exploring the fringes betwixt indie/prog-rock-infused melodic soundscapes and daringly off-kilter electronics, French disc jockey and producer Cosmo Vitelli's name has become synonymous with deep, no-holds-barred forays into uncharted territories and full body-&-soul sonic immersion. Schooled by the sound of guitars, it’s when confronted to a 4-track tape recorder that young Cosmo experienced an epiphany, which resulted in him dabbling in production as French Touch was soaring towards worldwide popular acclaim. Released in 1998, his eponymous debut for Etienne de Crécy’s Disques Solid launched his career, soon followed by an array of extended players and remixes that established him as one of the spearheads of the French electronic scene on an international scale.
 
Taking a sharp turn back to the leftfield after a ruthless stint in the arcane world of the majors, Cosmo Vitelli created his record label I’m a Cliché in 2004. Always a step ahead of his time and contemporaries, the Frenchman’s made it his signature to scout artists on the rise - Simian Mobile Disco, Azari & III, Yuksek, Moscoman, Red Axes to name but a few - offering them bespoke support and assistance to climb the ladder towards wider recognition. In parallel to his label-running venture, Cosmo went back to the basics with Bot’Ox, his joint project with Tekel’s Julien Briffaz. Merging alternative pop harmonics with a rock sensibility of varying scale and synth-heavy precision mechanics, the duo’s graced the grooves of labels as diverse and highly regarded as DFA and DC Recordings, eventually landing a gig at the legendary Olympia in Paris.
 
Now working from his Berlin studio, Cosmo Vitelli immerses himself in the heart of the vibrant European electronic music scene. Over recent years, he has left his mark with noteworthy releases and remixes on labels such as I’m a Cliché, Edit Service, Les Disques de la Mort. Among his standout releases are the two EPs 'Holiday In Panikstrasse' on Malka Tuti. Rather than conforming to formulaic and DJ-friendly beats, Cosmo's focus is on sound, deeply immersing himself in production, working towards aesthetic unity in each release, and refining his craft with each new record. 
 
In 2020, he curated a triple-LP VA compilation entitled 'Bongo Beats & Bankruptcy: The Sound of I’m A Cliché', released during the peak of European lockdowns, before releasing another EP under his name, 'As She Rolled Another’.
 
In 2022 he finally delivered his third album, 'Medhead', featuring eight cuts, five of them with vocalist Truus de Groot from the Dutch new/no-wave outfit Plus Instruments, 'Medhead' saw Cosmo liberated from conventional confines and arbitrary labels, effortlessly traversing various genres—from slow-drip kraut to intoxicating disco, murky motel-pop, neo-kosmische, hip-hop, industrial, and revamped indie-rock elements. This was followed the next year by an album of Medhead remixes by up-and-coming and well-established producers, including Krikor, Froid Dub or Khidja's Andrei Rusu.
 
In 2024, Cosmo Vitelli will have a busy year with the release of two collaborative albums. 
'Dopamine Dreams', set for release in March, renews his creative partnership with Truus de Groot, through a full collaboration authored equally by both artists. The dream-like soundscapes, enhanced by de Groot's vocals, evoke moods reminiscent of the 70s and 80s, with a timeless, debonair, and almost sardonic attitude. The next step in Cosmo Vitelli’s focus on high production values, Dopamine Dreams invites listeners to delve into its melodic and emotional depths.
 
This will be followed in September 2024 by a brand new album created with his Bot’Ox partner in crime Julien Briffaz after the project was left on standby for almost a decade.

Under the tree – In The Cave – At The Water, there’s where you’ll find Eleventeen Eston; sa- vouring the shade since his 2014 debut LP ‘Delta Horizon’ turned the spotlight his way. Taking shelter in the subterranean, the Perth musician has found a sound saturated with entheoge- nic splendour, growing something gorgeous from the grotesque. Finding a natural home on Hamburg’s Growing Bin, Eston emerges into the daylight with a dreamy LP.
The vision quest begins with ‚C in Sympathy‘, a freefall into the perverse beauty of the Domus Aurea, brought to life with E2-E4 electronics, chorus pedal shimmer and muted bass. Leaving the grasslands we dip a toe in the water with the hypnotic ripples of ‚2 d‘Or (Cab Chassis)‘, a Carl-Craig-goes-New-Age number which fuses the electronic and acoustic to perfection. De- licate piano, crystalline synth tones and tape-saturated emotion lend their cinematic charm to ‚East Perth Stories (Closing Titles)‘ before the propulsive bass and soft focus groove of ‚The Four Fountains‘ hits you with the heat haze. Eston takes another tapey diversion on the sci-fi synthscape ‚I Remember‘, while the coastal cool of ‚Thread & Truth‘ picks up the wavy white funk baton from Spike.
The B-side brings more beauty as the drifting and dreamy ambience of ‚I Float, I Am Free‘ gives way to the Windham Hill guitar licks, snaking bass and billowing textures of ‚A Squall, 1988‘, offering a welcome echo of the wonder of Wilson Tanner. ‚Where There Is Rain‘ sees Eston tune the Ute radio to 96FM Perth, marrying cascading keys, evocative vocal samples and lush guitar with a solid 80s pop beat, before he slows the pace for ‚Sand Man‘ a skewed and stoned bit of beach funk that‘s perfect for seduction. We part ways with the panoramic ‚Dory On Swan‘, a se- rene soundtrack to lapping waves and magic caves. Always in season, Growing Bin do it again. (Patrick Ryder)
