ASOK? OK. Due out Nov 10th on Scenery, the former M>O>S man’s "Millennium 2.2" has been falcon punching dancefloors for some time now; a knotty number with all the requisites to do the witching hour business: bouncy percussion, a snaggletoothed synth line and spectral pads. This one's a no-brainer for fans of the kind of spectral house pedalled by the likes of Legowelt, Aroy Dee and Innershades.

Pascal Nuzzo “Rising” - Nuzzo is an innovator, and he displays an impressive range with “Rising,” a track that seems to take good cues from its title out of the gate. After starting with a minimalist beat, Nuzzo invites in an array of different sounds, slowly introducing more and more animals to the menagerie before taking off with a slow synth beat that alternates with the higher pitches gracefully. The bridge ups the BPMs to almost double-time duty before taking the whole to a faster beat that rises to the forefront. The balance of so many different sounds is masterful, taking turns with each other in a way that never overwhelms either side before leaving us with a tempo that has to be matching the heartbeats of anyone who’s been dancing along.



UNRILIS016 - Pascal Nuzzo - Rising

In the five (five!) years since his cracking debut LP System dropped, the type of music Linkwood excelled at - a meld of sun-kissed house and loping LA funkiness - has become widespread, and perhaps even played out. So the decision to furrow a different path on forthcoming sophomore Expressions (due next week on Firecracker) makes perfect sense.
That being said, the warm tones prove hard to shake, and the precision of craft never truly goes away. What begins as straight techno chugger in the vein of The Field circa '07 gradually emerges from its tunnel into bright daylight. It's a coy move, us premiering this one: "Object" is a bridge. But coming from, and going to where? We've waited half a decade - one week more won't hurt.
