Lifted from the forthcoming album 'Unreality', Grum shares an 80s-inspired single 'Don't Look Down', featuring Natalie Shay.

There’s a considered and conscientious edge to every record that comes from the studio of Graeme Shepherd, a.k.a. Grum. Strip away the club exterior and you will find a nuanced, sometimes provocative, message that asks us to challenge our outlook on the world.

Progressive house connoisseur, Deep State label head and Anjunabeats stalwart, June 24 sees the release of his fourth artist album, ‘Unreality’; his most reflective work to date, putting human connection in the digital age under the microscope. 

“This is about remembering our humanity, which perhaps we lost a little bit over the last couple of years - maybe we can get a bit of it back in the dark, under some strobe lights.” 

A story in two halves, the album is introspective, ideas-driven and song heavy, holding a mirror to Graeme’s own emotional journey over the last two years. 

“The first half mostly came about in the summer of 2020. With all that time on my hands, and as a form of therapy, I started rediscovering a lot of 80s music I loved and hadn’t listened to for a long time. This turned into doing special 80s livestreams to connect with my fans. There is definitely a bit of longing here for simpler and happier times.” Grum explains. “The second half of the album has a darker, apocalypse rave feel to it”.

Designed for the darkest of dance floors, lead single ‘Disconnected’ featuring Daniel Sealine provides one of those cataclysmic moments; a techno infused helter-skelter ride with Daniel’s vocal bursting out of the shadows.

Grum embarks on phase one of his ‘Unreality’ tour this summer, stage one including 18 dates across North America with shows in San Francisco, Las Vegas, Chicago, Toronto and more.

Grum feat. Sealine ‘Disconnected’ is out now. ‘Unreality’ arrives June 24 on Anjunabeats, and is available to pre-order as a single 12” vinyl, and as a bundle with Deep State via the Anjuna Music Store.

Sunny Lax returns with his first Anjunabeats release of 2023, the 'Ruby EP'.

One of our most beloved artists, Levente Márton, aka Sunny Lax, has been part of our family since 'P.U.M.A / Cassiopeia' in 2006. “Back in those days you had to send CDs to labels in the post,” Márton says. “I sent ‘Cassiopeia’ and ‘P.U.M.A’ to nine or ten different labels, and Anjuna loved them.” Above & Beyond played ‘P.U.M.A’ four times in a row on their Trance Around The World radio show, and Armin van Buuren subsequently made ‘P.U.M.A’ the Record Of The Week and featured it on his ASOT Yearmix Album in 2005. A star was born.

Since then, Sunny Lax has grown and flourished alongside Anjunabeats. “Back then I produced 140BPM uplifting trance, and we did that together for six years,” Levente says. “But then everything started changing around 2011.” Spearheaded by Above & Beyond, ilan Bluestone, Oliver Smith and Sunny, a cleaner, more progressive trance sound emerged.

Many of Sunny Lax's productions in this era drove the 'trance 2.0' sound forward. 2015’s 'Enceladus' is a fine example. “That’s still my most popular track,” he says. “So many big artists played it at huge events.” The success of ‘Enceladus’ was unplanned. Levente remembers messing around in his studio, relaxed, happy and with no intention of producing a hit. “Sometimes when you’re in that state something pure and effortless comes out,” he says. Its place in Anjuna legend was cemented by Sunny dropping 'Enceladus' to 20,000 fans at Above & Beyond's ABGT250 celebrations at the Gorge, alongside fellow Anjunabeats stalwart and good friend Genix.

In recent years, Sunny's trademark melodic trance sound has been a cornerstone of Anjunabeats' release schedule: highlights include 'Solar Plexus', 'Losing It', 'V.I.B.E.' and 2020's 'End Of Our Time EP'. He's headlined shows across the globe and has been a regular guest at Anjunabeats' label showcases, plus recently supporting Above & Beyond on their Anjunafamily Reunion Tour and at their Group Therapy Weekender London festival.

The follow-up to his recent 'Emerald EP' - supported by Above & Beyond, Gabriel & Dresden, Tritonal and more - the 'Ruby EP' features three more trademark Sunny Lax creations. Lead track 'Archons' was played by Above & Beyond during their sold-out Group Therapy 500 celebrations at Banc of California Stadium, Los Angeles in October 2022.

Alex Sonata & TheRio join forces with Elevven on ‘Hanalei’, out now on Anjunabeats.

Hailing from Scotland and Italy, production duo Alex Sonata & TheRio have rapidly ascended in the global trance scene. The pair first teamed up in 2018; after several collaborations, they made it official in 2020, and Alex Sonata & TheRio was born. They've released a string of explosive club tracks on Anjunabeats including 'Breath Of The Wild', 'Cala Luna', 'Time' and 'Are We Dreaming', and performed at Creamfields and Group Therapy Weekender London last year.

This year, the duo remixed ‘Equal’ from Andrew Bayer’s fourth studio album ‘Duality’, which climbed to #10 in the Beatport Trance chart, and dropped ‘Mantra’, which has been hammered by Above & Beyond live of late, including at their headline performance at Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas this May, and at one of the final shows at legendary London institution Printworks. 

Shahin Kanafchian and Swapneel Ukhalkar, aka Elevven, made their Anjunabeats debut with a remix of Gabriel & Dresden's 'You', recorded in collaboration with Myon, which went on to become one of Above & Beyond's most played tracks of 2018.

The pair kicked off last year with a remix of 7 Skies’ ‘Sushi’, which climbed to #2 on the Beatport Trance Chart and was debuted by Above & Beyond in their ABGT450 set at The Drumsheds in London. They followed that up with a remix of Above & Beyond’s ‘Can’t Sleep’ with Ruben de Ronde, featured on Fatum's Anjunabeats Worldwide 10 compilation. This year, the pair released their first original release on Anjunabeats, ‘The Distance’, and remixed Andrew Bayer & Red Dragons’ ‘Matriarch’.
