The debut album of Toronto-based producer @onlinethreat "Contrapuntal Transfigurations" reflects upon the internalization of cyclical societal violence which surfaces in the modes of worship (hope) and grief(loss). 

The project revels in maximalist chaos, evoking the pains, traumas and ultimately catharsis induced by suffering. Interweaving textures and melodic motifs create an alternate dimensionality; this is music that could exist in the ancient past as well as the distant future, bending both time and logic into something new. Contrapuntal Transfigurations is a transgressive release akin to an outer-body experience as we approach a grandiose religiosity; it is the freedom beyond the somatic, activated through ritual.

My work and research explores the roles and traditions of Black musical practices and different forms of storytelling to understand the
ways memories, cultural histories and mythologies are passed on and retold. Recently I have been exploring ways of examining the associations, experiences and disenfranchisement we might encounter to the places that we live and grow up in. 

Both pieces use music and field recordings gathered from various locations across the UK over recent months, to interpret the paintings ‘Waterfall in Sweden’ by Albert Julius Olsson and ‘Lac d‘Annecy’ by John Michael Wishart.

The paintings made me consider my own proximity to the two landscapes depicted and think about the legacies of writers, artists and musicians making work and drawing relationships between bodies of water and the natural world, as a means of exploring the continuity, permanence and perseverance in the breadth of Black experience.

Romance Relic is an artist moniker of Helsinki-based producer and writer Jussi Hertz. Under Romance Relic Hertz explores different emotions via ambient-inspired soundscapes and collage-y field recording and vocal fragments. Romance Relic also co-hosts the audiovisual platform World Canvas, which focuses on explorative storytelling via different methods of practice in contemporary art. Currently Romance Relic is working of his debut album release & collaborating with different artists in Finland and Denmark.
