"Se Nos Dio" is a bomba - a Puerto Rican music genre and dance in the style of  Cuembé from the town of Cataño and  where the drums or  buleadores play in the Danué rhythm. The idea behind the style of what we're doing is to keep a the essence of the Atabal of the 80s and create the sound of the Atabal 2021."

This is a composition, arrangement, and production by Caymmi Rodríguez (director Atabal) and David Marrero.  Inspired by a plena chorus created by Kily Vializ (Boricua Y De Mayagüez) the song expresses a tiradera or lyrical battle, a rivalry between the plena  groups from various parts of Puerto Rico.
"En la Batalla" is the result of a collaborative meeting of four singers from four different towns on the island: "Kily" Vializ of "Boricua y de Mayagüez" (Mayagüez), Gabylon Negrón -"La Juntilla"  (Morovis), Tito Rodríguez -"La R", (Levittown), and Caymmi Rodríguez for Atabal (San Juan).  

The tiradera is not only between the singers, but also between the requinteros (hand drum players) of each group.  As Caymmi explains, "each requintero measures himself to the other as playing the role of fighting cocks. From there, a cadence and flavor are created that can make anyone dance."  The requinteros who participated are Kiriko (Boricua and Mayagüez),  Josué 4Life (La Juntilla), Yoko (La R) and Víctor Emmanuelli  (Atabal).

The song was released accompanied by a video where all these musicians participate. It was recorded by Giova Film at the Club Gallístico de San Juan. Actors  George S. Duran Rivera "Scottie" and Joksan Ramos also participate. Other musicians collaborated as extras backing up their favorites.

Suénala

Written by Cuban composer Arsenio Rocríguez, this "son" appeared in Atabal's first recording Del Caribe al Brasil (LP)  in 1986 and later in the re-edited cd format in 2006.  Close to turning 35 years in the music business, Atabal has continued to place percussion as its main focus but now has many original  songs and a more contemporary sound.

Dundunbanza

Upon celebrating 20 years in music, Atabal re-edited their first recording Del Caribe al Brasil. Hector Rodríguez wrote the first part of this track Plena Aniversario and added it to a the rack Suénala  already in the first recording.  Something curious about this recording is that Caymmi Rodriguez (currently Atabal's lead singer) sings backup chorus in Plena Aniversario in the re-edited edition. Officially becoming Atabal in 1983, the band is both traditional and modern in its musical expression of bomba and plena.  Héctor Rodríguez, better known as “Héctor Atabal”, was one of four musicians that started Atabal. He contributed to creating musical concept and sound of the group . In the 90s he extended the sound by adding brass, cuatro and bass. Hector passed away in 2020 and his son Caymmi, who began to sing and play in Atabal in 1999, has continued with the band.  Caymmi Rodríguez (singer, songwriter, percussionist) has led Atabal on a musical journey that continues offering the rich percussion sounds of the traditional bomba and plena but with a modern pop/urban twist.  While updating some of Atabal's classic songs, Caymmi has applied his songwriting abilities and love of these two genres to create original songs that reflect Puerto Rico's everyday life.  Most have elements of jazz, Latin percussion, urban, dancehall, flow and pop mixed in with bomba and plena. Atabal has featured singers from Salsa like Andy Montañez, and regueton Vico C.  The group has performed throughout the United States, Caribbean and Europe in Festivals: Oostende and Dranouter (Belgium); the Festival del Libro de Guadalajara (Mexico) and Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), Cuba Disco in Havana (Cuba) and other festivals in the Netherlands, Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela. 9 recordings and many videos can be found online on Spotify, Pandora, ITunes, Soundcloud and YouTube, among others.
