Gemma has self released music and has had compositions placed in a Netflix, public television, and commercials. She has also performed and DJ'd extensively at venues including the Getty, Zebulon, and Red Bull Music Festival. As an installation artist, she has shown her work and participated in collaborations at Vincent Price Art Museum, MASS MocA, and Human Resources (description provided by Gemma Castro).

#gtalksradio present: No stranger to the regional music scene, Shelhiel has toured across Southeast Asia, playing festivals and shows including Good Vibes Festival and Urbanscapes, while also opening for acts such as Hyukoh, FKJ & Crystal Castles. He’s been lauded on publications including i-D, JUICE, Mulazine and Buro, and recently won the Malaysia PWH Music Award 馬來西亞娛協獎 (Yu Xie Jiang) award for best arrangement for one of his productions – Shio’s ‘Extrication’, which was also picked up by Netflix as a theme song for ‘The Ghost Bride. Another one of his collaborative works – ‘AAA’ with NYK, for which he co-wrote and co-produced has also garnered over 40 million streams on Chinese music platforms to date since its release in March. His latest debut EP “SUPERSTROBE” is selected as NME’s “The 25 Best Asian Albums of 2020.”

“I’m Shelhiel, Malaysian artist, songwriter, producer. Growing up playing old PC games like Street Of Rage, raving as a kid to hardcore/techno/house VGM by Yuzo Koshiro. I started out my production by combining my piano lessons, gospel & electronic music. After touring Southeast Asia, playing shows including Mixcloud x W Hotel’s Future Rising, also opening acts for Hyukoh, FKJ, I finally released my debut EP 2020 consisting of English, Malay, Mandarin songs which represents the multilingual & multicultural community of how I grew up with in Malaysia. I just released my latest MV “Star”, a Y4K fantasy of Malaysian sinofuturism, which I self-creative directed.

I always felt that Southeast Asia is the last part of the earth that haven’t been fully explored by the world for their music. I wanna be part of the opening chapter, to bridge the different cultures+languages bringing SEA to the world.”

#gtalksradio present: DJ BAADAAM is the manifesto of Pikai’s skateboarding ethos extended to the DJ sphere. He is one of the few boys in Shanghai who is proficient in both skateboarding and Djing. Influenced by Shelter cultural early on, he made his debut at Genome and Do hits parties. He brought his expertise in Grime, Drill, Footwork, and British Dance music to the Gully Riddim team, continuing to spread these genres. As he gradually embodies his vision, BAADAAM can easily let the crowd sense his unstoppable passion and energy through selected sounds.

#gtalksradio present: Hello! This is VÕ.A 2000. In figuring out what to write for this artist’s bio, I used Chat-GPT and then had an identity crisis about my sonic and cultural landscape: Am I more Vietnamese or American? Where do I belong? How can I find true connection in a digital world? When’s the last time I called my mom?

This vignette captures all the reasons why I mix booty-bouncing Jersey/techno and ambient breaks for girls who want to dance their existential crisis away. In a way, my mix is tightly woven with experiences of a generation seeking both escape and meaning in the music.

Their works span performing documents, multimedia, and technology centers to interrogate, experiment, explore, and define decolonized possibilities.

elekhlekha อีเหละเขละขละ is a Thai word that means chaos, dispersedness, entropy, and non-direction to break free our practices from being labeled through a Western lens.

#gtalksradio x NEW INC present: Secret Riso Club, an artist-run space that serves as a resource for independent publishing, art book production, art project development, as well as for exhibitions and distribution. The use of print & design as a tool for social change, creativity, and community empowerment drive the work and programming. Rooted in the values of collaboration, equity, and artistic expression, SRC strives to cultivate an environment where individuals from diverse backgrounds can come together to learn, create, and connect. SRC is run in collaboration between Gonzalo Guerrero and Tara Ridgedell.

The space features a bookstore with publications from independent artists and publishers across the world, a workshop space for classes in bookmaking, printmaking and community building, and a print production studio with access for printers and artists.

#gtalksradio x NEW INC present: Shayn Jackson, a 3D artist and industrial designer based in Brooklyn, NY. Born in St. Louis, MO, Shayn experienced first hand the results of systemic racism and the necessity of context and compassion as acts of resistance against it. With a focus on craft and the African diaspora, Shayn interrogates the landscape of modern design and digital art by reaching back to the methods, rituals and materials of antiquity. His work aims to re-contextualize art and design for Black peoples, with hopes that future generations will enjoy a rich and equitable art community healed of the wounds left by erasure and imperialism.
