For this week's mix, we reached out to our friend in Seoul, South Korea, @ligrye <3 Check out our Q&A below! This mix is hot, full of energy, and just what you need to hear to kick off the weekend. Enjoyyy <3

PJ: Tell us about this mix & where you want it to take people.
L: I’m very excited about this mix. I would describe it as an eclectic fusion of high energy world rhythms, with a focus on South African music, blending together global cultural influence and experience. Overall I want the listener to feel empowered,  it’s a feel-good mix,  a mix you can expect to hear at the Jol [ South African word used for a party, or to express; "I'm having a good time."] or  a...  get yourself outta bed and take on the day kinda morning.
Notably, I want this mix to be reminiscent of this time, a tough time for many, but we shall overcome. I sampled my intros and outro from Sarafina, a South African film based on the 1976 Soweto youth uprising. It tells the story of a young schoolgirl who is not afraid to fight for her rights and inspires her peers to rise up in protest. Thus said I hope for the listeners of this mix to feel inspired and know, the dark times shall end. The mix features the likes of FAKA, Batuk, Sho Madjozi, DJ Maphorisa, Euphonic, AHADADREAM, TSVI, CO.KR, and more

PJ: You're a photographer and DJ, with being in quarantine, how has it impacted your creativity?
L: South Korea hasn’t really been in full quarantine rather a strong focus on social distancing, nonetheless, It’s actually been really good for my creativity and general well being. It’s given me the necessary downtime to focus on myself and the direction I want to take. I’ve been able to plan projects and deliver so much more efficiently.  DJING has been limited to the bedroom And intimate space so I’ve been directing my efforts into my photography series, Boys of Seoul. That being said I miss clubs, I miss playing music to crowds of people just wanting dance, I miss the energy of the club goers, the social aspects too, from the techno crowd to the hip-hop crowd and everything in between, Seoul is special for that, there’s something for everyone and we can all meet at a place called Itaewon (the city’s center for nightlife and underground culture.)

PJ: You’re actually super involved in nightlife in Seoul! Wanna tell us about some of your work? We have a super big crush on Cakeshop :heart_eyes:
L:  Haha, Cakeshop is great, it’s where it all started. It’s where I gave birth to Shade which is a collective of DJs, promoters, and creatives dedicated to bringing together the spirit of the underground music scene and LGBTQ+ culture through parties and events. Shade’s intent is to push the boundaries of the LGBTQ+ scene further, ensuring a safe, welcoming, creative space for the Seoul community and beyond.  Following Shade’s success, we then created Femme, which focuses on female/non-binary and queer-identifying artists, while creating a safe space platform for all. The latest addition to the family is SINS, which is themed around the 7 cardinal sins.  We encourage people to experience ultimate pleasure through music, leather, whips, and chains. You get the idea 0;
We’ve been fortunate enough to host to some globally heavy-hitting artists such as ARCA, Yaeji, Juliana Huxtable, Total Freedom, FAKA, SHYBOI, LOTIC, and more.

PJ: Destiny’s Child, En Vogue and the Spice Girls are recruiting for a new member, which group are you joining?
L: Damn I hate admitting this but I’ve always wanted to be a Spice Girl haha
