Lo-fi version of "Alerta," recorded in the midst of a tinnitus crisis.

Alerta

This audio is a sound collage used to illustrate the term ‘buzzing’ used and examined in an autoethnographic study conducted with Damià Sinfreu’s in the small village of Sant Julià de Lória, Andorra, in March 2024. Damià is an autodidact beekeeper allergic to bees and his experience and knowledge are the main object of study of the autoethnographic work hereby mentioned. To better illustrate buzzing yielded in me, this audio shows the moment Marina and I were checking on the bee boxes and the bees started to buzz. The sound of me desperately trying to gush smoke on the bees is also noticeable, while Marina intends to tell me that the smoke we have is enough to calm the bees down.

The photograph used was taken by me with my Olympus Pen camera, using an Ilford HP5 film, in March 2024, during my visit to Damià's house.

Buzzing Against Collapse

This is the soundtrack I created and engineered for the video essay Life Span (2023) by the Brazilian, Barcelona-based artist Maíra Neves. 

Life Span is shot entirely with a sports camera attached to the artist's chest. From this emotional angle, the images show us a person moving to and from spaces of leisure and work. We see both modes of transport and transcendental states of mind, while the narrative plays with terms and concepts from corporate language. To reflect on working life today, Life Span also revisits the historical production of the proletariat. Here she appears as the debris found on some of the region's beaches, and also as the material the artist employs to perform a mechanical gesture of binary decisions.
