First episode of my mix series residency on @ola_radio 😼

"(...) What are the underlying rules that make certain genres acceptable or not? Seeing the term guilty pleasure pop up~ where does the guilt comes from ? By understanding that music taste is part of our habitus (roughly meaning your framework tends to be shaped by the social groups you have been part of/identify with) can I still vibe with music genres from communities I don’t share the same values with? (an exemple would be music « linked » to yt liberal/« bros » audiences, like house/edm/post skrillex dubstep)

I realized that, to my experience, cringe is basically internalized social rules that have been forced into you through traumatic events, usually shaming during childhood, making you understand what is or isn’t socially acceptable. 
Cringing being your mirror neurons telling you that you’d be marginalized/excluded from the group if you engaged in said activity/situation that makes you cringe, hence making you unconsciously restrain yourself.

Through this series I’d like to open up a space that allows artists to embrace cringe to the fullest, because in the end, if everything/everyone is cringe, nothing is and it gives us the ability to engage with reality and ourselves in a fresh, more authentic way, free of these arbitrary « good taste » rules that are bound to be broken anyway, the cycle of cringe seemingly accelerating in correlation with our consumption of culture. With this mix, which is possibly the most stupidly aggressive one we ever made, we really wanted to give another strong statement in our militant hate against heavily discriminatory & colonial concepts pushed by bourgeoise propaganda such as "enlightenment" or "intelligence", and against their abominable byproduct called "intelligent dance music". We collapsed as many tracks as possible in a fast-paced, hyper-eventful mix that serves as a euphoric manifesto of how we think music at the club should feel. It's the mid 2000s, you're 13 years old and driving with your dad to the Croatian seaside, summer vacation just begun. It's 2am, you're sleeping in the backseat with your legs stretched out and your head hitting the door every once in a while, which makes it harder to sleep. Music plays quietly through the car radio, Croatian radio stations keep interfering with an Italian dance music station since you're close to the Italian border. The sleepy voice of a Croatian late night news announcer keeps getting mixed up with a pre-recorded mix of party tracks, some of which you know, but this time they sound faster. Your older brother is into Sonic Youth, he already explained that this type of music is cheesy and must be avoided, but you secretly like it. Over 10 years later, you're finally a person and you stopped pretending to give a shit about Sonic Youth.
