Stereo down mix of 5.1 soundtrack for the film Linear Shift by Lauren Healey and Taryn Edmonds, to be shown 22nd June at New Bridge Project Newcastle.
All sounds were captured on site by Lauren and Taryn, theres very little processing involved, just a touch of eq and mostly level and pan placement. Be interesting to see what you think of it without the images and surround effects.

Using the site of the former Wallsend Maritime Research Centre as a paradigm where multiple layers of time co-exist in the same space, Linear Shift brings together observations from this site and the surrounding riverside landscape in an immersive audio-visual installation.
 
Part of the industrial landscape that characterised Newcastle for much of the last century, the site is now in a state of transition. Caught in a moment of economic uncertainty, it hovers in a limbo before its intended transformation into a contemporary riverside business park. A story that resonates with many post-industrial cities across the country, Linear Shift is a snapshot in the history of this place – a precarious moment that is both significant yet unremarkable.
 
Presented as a sculptural video and surround sound installation, the work combines techniques drawn from the artists’ backgrounds in documentary film and still photography. Whilst this approach to the visuals keeps the eye detached and observational, a highly choreographed soundscape playfully animates the film beyond the screen and introduces alternative narratives to the audience.

In trawling through the hard drive i came across this mental number from a few years back... incoherent fun.

ShitDisco - Reactor Party (Guessmen Remix)

Wafts of Voodoo Techno, stabs of electro blues, inner space sci-fi effects and thick synth melodies coming on like tar flavoured honey. The twisted
noir-pop of the Guessmen confounds expectations.

Their recent album "Back From The Bins" has been hailed as a masterpiece by some and un-listenable by those of a delicate disposition. Whilst shifting
from gnarly hobo disco to jazz infused electro, the songs manage to hang together with enough identifiable cohesion to keep things from being on the wrong side of random, maintaining the all important GROOVE as the centre of their world.

With extremely physical shows, Guessmen are an outfit to thoroughly involve
yourself with in a live setting. They're "absolutely wild!... passionate,

They have even reportedly induced labour at one show.
