With the UK’s ‘Freedom Day’ of 19 July also comes the unlocking of countries all around the world, including in Australia, home country of rising House DJ Alex Preston. The Sydney native contributes to a worldwide party feeling today with his laidback, irresistible new slice of soul house ‘Lots Of Soulful Vocals’.

Luxuriating at a lower bpm, ‘Lots Of Soulful Vocals’ dives into the world of disco with Preston himself contributing funky basslines and moments of guitar playing too. Pulling the poolside anthem together is some inspired use of sampling, with a male, then a female, voice telling of the power of House. “Well, House music is about fun, it’s about love, it’s about unity, togetherness” the sample begins.

The DJ/surfer has raced to the forefront of house fans’ minds since the release of the massive ‘Love You Better’ in April 2021. That single is closing in on 1m streams on Spotify alone and has been played on BBC Radio 1 as well as Australia’s foremost radio station Triple J. Alex has also been receiving excellent club feedback, with several DJ’s including Jax Jones, Mark Knight, Mistajam and Arielle Free spinning - and backing - him.

"I’ve been listening to a lot of old Soul records lately and I wanted to incorporate some of those vibes into a classic house groove. I felt that the melodic parts of the track should have a real eclectic feel and then be complimented by a chunky contemporary house groove!"

Dominic Balchin is an artist we always keep a close eye on here at LV, his tracks have graced LV online and many LV DJ sets over the years. A word from Jesse Rose:
“It’s been an amazing rollercoaster of a ride with Play It Down and when asked why I would stop releasing in its current incarnation the answer was obvious. I’ve always been very involved in the A&R process of all the releases. I’ve always felt confident to tell an artist if something should be taken out or added because I have spent (near enough) every weekend for the last two decades in a club, listening and playing House music. I would test the demos in my sets and know automatically what felt right and what felt wrong. If I’m not playing in clubs it wouldn’t feel right for me to tell someone who is playing shows every weekend how their record should sound. And ultimately, Play It Down for me has been about finding music I've wanted to play in my sets. So for the minute it’s a massive thank you to all the artists, fellow DJs, supporters, club-goers,
distributors, journalists, radio presenters, interns, promoters, bootleggers, and to Laura (who has worked day-in & day-out overseeing near every part of the label for the past five years) for letting us come up with dreams that all of you have helped make a reality.
This Play It Down 100 compilation album of original tracks brings back all the current roster to collaborate and a few tracks written solo by some of our key artists. It was a very enjoyable process to see what they would all come back with.”

Angelo Ferreri began producing tracks in the early noughties and has since formed two record labels and produced over 100 tracks. ‘Want To Say EP’ is his first release for the Miami-based Soulfuric family, a name that stands as one of the most renowned labels in house music. The three-track EP remains true to the record label’s soulful roots, moving through groove-laden jazz, disco and 90s influences, demonstrating the producer’s ability to create versatility with rounded feel-good vibes. The title track collides the worlds of 90s house with a real jazz influence, offering funky piano riffs behind a pumping beat. ‘I’m Talking To You’ has an up-tempo classic disco backdrop with a kicking bass and soul backing vocals. Finally, ‘The Real Ghetto’ (Extended Mix) takes a southern turn with hollering vocals and electric guitar solos. A truly sun-soaked Soulfuric Trax debut from the Sicilian-born producer.

Another great year is almost over, but we have got one of the hottest releases of 2019 as our way of saying goodbye.

After the success of the amazing 'Hold On' album by Sebb Junior, we've got a killer remix pack from the album to round the year off in style. We are delighted to the grandmaster Art of Tones back on the label with his supreme remix of 'Come Back', featuring our beloved Eider. Ludo delivers the quality vibes like always with an awesome track that is reminiscent of early 80s disco. 

The second part of the 'Hold On' remix pack is a reinterpretation of 'Piece Of Me' by Jarrad Gallo. As a Bay Area Native of San Jose, this DJ / producer is no stranger to the San Francisco house music scene. Jarred brings all these influences to his remix, giving us a track that is authentically deep but at the same uniquely contemporary.

Based in Manchester, UK, Feint Young Son A.K.A Andy Cain is best known as half of the deep house duo Studioheist who have served as a mainstay of the Large Music artist team for years. Both his words and music here are powerful, timely and a much needed salve during this current global crisis. Andy even recruits the legendary House artist Roland Clark to help craft his message and the result is truly sublime. Since its launch in winter 2004, Oaklands Guesthouse Music has established itself as one of the premiere underground house labels in the world. Featuring a talent roster of more than 100 artists, the label—helmed producer/DJ Mes (aka Jason Sutton)—has gone on to drop 70 vinyl and digital releases by artists from 20 countries. Defined by a catalogue of beats that bump, thump and pump, Guesthouse continues blending old and new school sounds to deliver diggable tunes to the dance floor and beyond.

Guesthouse was born in a time of underground transition. As the first wave of new school house was redefining the rules established in the ’80s and ’90s, Mes—the label’s A&R—sought to embrace both schools of sound. Merging the two flavors resulted in an eclectic mix of old and new beats that proved groovy, jazzy and always bass-heavy. Today Guesthouse is best known for featuring chunky, well-produced tracks are equally fresh and funky.

That fresh vibe has carried over into the label’s talent roster, which has showcased both acclaimed and little known artists. One of its most touted successes includes the breakout release Gramophonedzie’s “Why Don’t You,” a cross-genre cut that was licensed by Capitol Records but has sold more than 15,000 to date. Gramophonedzie joins the ranks of other established roster likes including DJ Sneak , Chris Simmonds, JT Donaldson, 1200 Warriors, Cosy Creatures, DeMarkus Lewis and The Sound Republic, the former house duo that is also a Guesthouse original.  

As the landscape of house continues to evolve, Guesthouse will move with it, staying true to vinyl and digital releases while dropping its signature, well produced party rocking music. The label’s consistent schedule of releases has proved that Mes and his lengthening talent roster are here for the long haul.

“We’re constantly dropping something new,” Mes says. “You never know what surprise is around the corner.”
