Next in our Motek Podcast series we welcome Puerto Rico native Jonny Cruz. A multi versatile DJ and producer that is constantly exploring and pushing the boundaries of his craft. A man of many aliases with a wide variety of releases in many genres as well. His production and DJ qualities have seen him released on Cocoon,  Vakant,  Poker Flat, Akbal and our own Motek Music under his own name and as part of duo Ominous. Jonny is also a core artist of label My Favourite Robot.

Belgium’s Hermanez has long since been an impressive force with prolific output everywhere from Suara to Trapez LTD to Leena and Monique Musique. His deep, mystical version builds through hip-shaking percussion and swathes of dubby pads moving across the stereo field. Delays are used to great effect for both percussion and synths, creating a feel that’s reminiscent of late ‘90s progressive house but with a deeper and more groovy touch.

Fourteen years in the making, a thread of mystery weaves its way through the tapestry of this melancholic LP. It’s a true journey through a sublime sonic soundscape. Opening track Adormecido is shrouded in mystery, closely followed by Miso Drunky with its tribal drums and dramatic synth stabs. Kaléidoscope bubbles up next, swiftly followed by Tilt with its genteel cowbell. Then comes Año Uno the first track created back in 2004 with its impressive church-like bells. Suki Ni is twinkling and sublime that flows into the delicate groove of Let It Slide, which samples an ambient rain storm. The album closes on La Sandunga gracefully littered with plentiful percussion. 

Of the album, the pair explain how they were “raised on old technology and integrated the newer technology in our everyday lives as it was developing” a fact that is clearly apparent upon listening to the album. They give a sonic hat tip to their “love of melancholic melodies….almost always rooted in the past, but to us, no time is attached. Are the new machines dreaming about the past, or are the new ones contemplating the future that lays ahead?”. The album proves their ability to fuse the new with the old to create an album bursting with timeless tracks. 

Ernesto Ferreyra and Guillaume Coutu Dumont’s ​partnership is a true meeting of musical minds. Their first release was gifted to us way back in 2005- the Conexión Califa EP released on German imprint Raum Musik. Since then they’ve released on Musique Risquée as well as a previous EP on Crosstown Rebels. Individually, they’ve released a plethora of music with Ferreyra also heading up his own label Loosen Up Records and Guillaume signing music to Musique Risquée amongst others.

Ahmed is a founding member and curator to the Bahrain based electronic music party series, Soundscapes. A party series that has revived and raised the awareness of electronic music on the island. 2019 marked the 5th season of growth for the party series and the electronic music movement in his home country of Bahrain. Recently whilst living in Dubai, he’s launched a new party series with a few friends called Noctuary. The Dubai based party series is aimed at the more minimal sound. Hameed is also one of its main residents.

Berlin based DJ and musician Guido Schneider has been producing electronic music since the early 90ʼs. Strongly influenced by the "EBM“ genre, he started his first project together with a friend in 1991. A few years later, at that time based in Celle, Germany,
Schneider founded the label “Neue Welten”, on which he for several years released his own music, solo and together with colleagues. Inspired by his move to Berlin in the mid-nineties, Guido began focusing fully on his music, especially on his co-productions with renowed producer Sammy Dee, as “Schneider & Radecki”. Changes marked the beginning of the new millennium: Guido discontinued "Neue Welten” and met vocalist Florian Schirmacher. Schneider's production skills and Florianʼs vocals was a perfect match and together they started the project “Glowing Glisses” under which pseudonym they released three singles as well as the album "Silver Surfer“ on Poker Flat Recordings. In 2002, Guido and Glowing Glisses joined Steve Bug, Märtini Brös and Martin Landsky on the Poker Flat World Tour. Back in Germany, after spending months & months on the road, Guido started to focus on his solo project under his own name. All the hard work in the studio paid off and a streak of solo-releases on Poker Flat followed, especially "Unterwegs mit Guido Schneider“ and "Oh My Buffer“, productions who put Guido on the map of internationally acclaimed producers. Guido was also Poker Flat label owner Steve Bugʻs first choice to remix his unstoppable classic "Loverboy“ for the labelʼs 50th anniversary release. The success continued with his remixes of B.ʼs “Minikool”, Dub Kultʼs “On & On”, 2Dawgʼs “Itʼs A Dawgs Life“ and Daniel Stefanikʼs “Move Me“ showed that Guido is a force to be reconed with. The next milestone in his career was his first solo album "Focus On: Guido Schneider" released on Poker Flat in 2006. His fame rose quickly and the album was an exciting overview of his capabilities. Through the years, Guido Schneider has built up a reputation for being a solid DJ, rocking dancefloors all around the world. He is continously invited to play in top clubs in North & South America, Ibiza, Canada, Australia, Japan and all around the world, but also finds time to do local shows in his hometown Berlin. In 2009, Schneider founded the electronic music booking agency “Solid AM” a step he took in order to feature and push artists he believe in. Next Step was Guido & An Reich started “Motivbank”, which since then, has featured releases from Reboot, Ion Ludwig, Giles Smith, Wareika and many more. More recently, Guido Schneider has teamed up with Berliner Jens Bond for several releases on Highgrade records. He has also found success working with a new production partner, Pascal Feos. The duo have released three records on Feos own imprint "Level Non Zero" and an album is in the making.
