Ice Black - Baobinga & Guido

After a long sabbatical (three years!) Guido returns with a two track single Onward/Blazing Trails. The release is set to be the first of a string of releases intended to drop this year. 

'Onward' is a throwback to the grime period around double o four, influenced by artists such as Low Deep, Dizzee, Rapid & Wiley to name a few. The track contains a big orchestral palette - strings, horn stabs and choir to boot alongside blaring saw synthesizers over subby kick drums and rhythmic clap/hi-hat patterns. 

Like the lead track, 'Blazing Trails' casts a vast array of sounds. It is a colourful upbeat party banger with a unique blend of real instruments; guitar stabs, quick-fire harp melodies along with mysterious synth lines and a bouncing sub. 

Like Guido's previous releases, this one has a familiar focus on melodies which can be said to be attributed to the 'Purple sound' that took listeners by storm all those years ago. Time having moved on a lot since then, it goes to show that bangers like 'Mad Sax' & 'Beautiful Complication' are still being supported by club DJs today demonstrating the timeless zone Guido likes to operate in.

Not resting on his laurels, Bristol electronic/bass music veteran Guido follows up his recently released comeback single 'Onward' with a 4-track EP equally as potent.

Inspired by the producer's trek from Cairo to Capetown in 2017, this new EP features tracks expressing the exotic and unfamiliar surroundings experienced on the trip. Hence the title of the EP - Unknown.

The first track 'Would Oud Mind?' as the name suggests features an oud, a plucked string instrument from the Middle East alongside reverberated square waves and heavy sublow kicks. The track starts out mysterious and moody building up to an epic midsection where raspy brass horns kick in.

'54 Celsius' makes use of a brass section as well but in a more raw, agressive manner whereas 'Unknown' plays out at a slower tempo with an alluring minimalistic feel. Finally the EP rounds off with 'Babu Lamu' inspired by a visit to the Kenyan island of the same name and has an oceanic feel, showing off washy organic sounds beside pleasant arpeggiated bells and high pitched synth lines.

Following up from this past summer's excellent 4-track EP 'Unknown', Guido releases his new single 'End Point'. In another musical universe, 'End Point' could be the end boss theme from a videogame, with real 'end of the world showdown between good and evil' vibes to it.

It starts with eerie echoey keys building up to an intense crescendo of guitar chords and synthesized square waves backed by a heavy drum beat.

After a couple of years away from music, Guido is making a strong comeback, this being his third release of 2018. He's also back on the DJing trail, and you can expect to see/hear much more of him over the coming months / in 2019

'Seeds' is a new 6-track EP packed full of his trademark innovation and melodic beats from stalwart Bristol-based producer Guido.

Opening track 'Inatrance' is a slow and steady orchestral/electronic hybrid where choirs and synths share the same space.

Next follows the lead track 'Seeds', an upbeat pop anthem full of feel good summer vibes.

Tracks three and four, 'Here We Go' & 'Swing', are throwbacks to the 140 BPM era, that will delight those fans of Guido who enjoy tuneful melodies with a brash, exhilarating sound.

Next up is 'Midnight Fairground', a standout track in its own right, which has a dreamy, trippy-like quality that (as its title suggests) captures a sense of wandering around a fantasy fairground in the dead of night.

Last up, 'Heavenly' rounds off the EP in soothing and ethereal style with 808 kick drums complimented by a string harp-like melody.

Commenting on his new release, Guido says: "With these tracks, I wanted to keep faith with my musical roots while at the same time push myself in a few new musical directions. I hope everybody will enjoy the results."
