I tried the iBeam pickup in my Martin D28 with every guitar model in my Zoom A1-Four effects processor. I was very surprised at how extremely bad some models sounded with the iBeam/D28 rig. I didn't think the modeling effects were that strong, but the mismatches were painfully obvious. Aside from my usual EQ settings for the iBeam, no other effects were used for this experiment. I used the Martin D18 model because it sounded the best (to my ears) of all the different guitar models. It's possible that I could improve upon the modeled tone by adjusting the EQ somewhat. *** There are five pairs of playing samples: 1) slow strumming, 2) aggressive strumming, 3) bare-fingered arpeggios, 4) bare-fingered picking and 5) pattern picking with fingerpicks. The first sample in each pair has the D18 modeling effect applied. *** My signal chain was: guitar> Zoom A1-Four> active DI> Zoom H4 recorder's XLR input.
