Melbourne/Naarm’s Gumm graduated from being an active promoter to performing at Melbourne’s biggest festivals and events and frequenting Australia’s interstate cities.

With his recent debut EP released on Berlin’s Midnight Operators, plus releases on the Adana Twins’ ‘TAU’, Amsterdam’s Bordello A Parigi, and Curses’ Ombra International, Gumm is quickly solidifying himself as an artist to watch.

With a number of exciting new projects on the work, Gumm is well situated at the Melbourne forefront of a compelling global sound with roots in house, indie and melodic genres.

Today Gumm is still an active member of his local scene, working for industry leaders Novel, as well as hosting his own events.

‘Don’t DJ’ sets things off with cantankerous drums ushering in a swirl of spinetingling sounds, increasing with intensity as the intro progresses. When the track hits its stride, we get a Brazilian-sounding vocal which provides the main motif, as the low end pumps and Gumm builds the energy. A breakdown takes us into the main body of the track with a funked up bassline and high
energy, laser-esque FX. The main breakdown warps and stutters the vocal to great effect, leading into a frenetic final chapter full of vigour.

Next up is ‘Shuffer’, a dark brooding cut with a menacing b-line. The percussion is tight with a hint of groove permeating throughout. Gumm pumps up the low end when the track gets rolling, a jaunty melody complements the bass and a repeated vocal clip enters the fray, adding a hypnotic element. Gumm skillfully shifts the arrangement, playing with the energy until we hit a
breakdown, which unleashes the track’s full force. Epic.

Finally, Sam Shure steps in to remix ‘Don’t DJ’, adding his sonic fingerprint to the release. His interpretation utilises a groovy bassline with razor sharp beats, interspersed with the catchy vocal throughout. Sam employs the vocal for key energetic bursts, and transitions, leading us into a powerful breakdown. In the second part of the track we enter full on party mode, with the bass, beats and vocals coalescing to give us a large dose of high-energy vibes.

With releases on celebrated labels such as TAU, Frau Blau and Buttress, his productions have earned the attention of some of the world’s most respected selectors. Anyma featured Shuffer on his Beatport Artist of the Month chart, Joris Voorn included Where You At on his latest Essential Mix, and Dixon (we think) has been spinning multiple records. Add Vintage Culture, DJ Harvey, Agoria, Yet More, Ivory, Aera and Re.You to the list, and you get a picture of Gumm’s
broad yet refined appeal.

Back home, Gumm remains deeply connected to Australia’s scene, a key member of Melbourne’s boutique agency Novel, and the driving force behind his own event and mix series, Beautlism.
